Do those count as supernatural/ghost still? And I also enjoy horror films that leave the strings for the viewer to pull together after the movie has ended.
Psychological horror doesn't always have supernatural ties, so I would probably keep them separate. Basically any movie that attacks a characters fears, beliefs or mental stability can be considered psychological. The Wicker Man doesn't really have a strong supernatural aspect, but I would still consider it psychological horror.

Hellraiser 1 & 2 are classics that every horror fan should see at least once. Part 3 was ok. I like it mostly because it reminds me of the 90's. The rest of the Hellraiser series is sh!t.

I'm sorry. I tend to block out traumatic experiences from my memory, which explains why I forgot that Bloodline was the last to be released in cinemas.

Wow. No love for Hellraiser IV. I admit IV was not great but it was entertaining.

Hellraiser: Bloodlines? (The one that takes place in space on a ship that looks like the box) was also a theatrical release. I remember seeing it on its first Friday in release at my local Carmike Theater (at that time it still only had three screens). I remember the audience more than the film's plot. It was single-handedly the worst audience I've ever experienced. People were so bored by the movie they honestly started conversations out loud, and we're cutting up with each other. It's the only time I'd ever seen people told, by management,to leave a theater if they couldn't keep quiet.

Yeah, I didn't mean those two should be linked together. Just that I like both the same, and many times a film that begins as a ghost story ends with a reveal that there wasn't anything supernatural going on in the first place. And sometimes it's up to the viewer to decide. But I also like good supernatural thrillers, like The Changeling.

The definition of psychological horror is always interesting to me, because if you go back, to the people who coined the term, it was meant to describe movies with a focus on psychological issues, i.e. movies where the monstrous was something inside of us instead of something coming from the outside.

'Psychological horror' was coined specifically to describe the new trend of mentally unstable killers in horror movies in the 1960's - 'Psycho', 'Repulsion' etc.

This, of course, is strict opposite of how most people use the term today, where it is mostly used to describe horror movies rich on atmosphere and low on violent and/ or graphical explicit content, i.e. movies that are primarily activating feelings of anxiety instead of the feelings of outright fear and/ or disgust that are activated by, say, the so-called 'torture porn' movies.

Personally, I think the latter definition and use is somewhat troublesome.

I was asked that because my friend and I were riffing Ghost Rider 2. Meanwhile, the people who told management were being louder (they were drunk) than us. By the way, we were the only two groups in the theater.

I watched Hellraiser III and Bloodline this weekend. I'd give III 3 stars and Bloodline 2 and a half. III was decent with some good kills. Bloodline didn't have much going for it except the ending which was pretty cool.

wow, no love for the direct to video sequels of the Hellraiser series? I actually thought Inferno was the third best in the series and I quite enjoyed Hellseeker as well. In fact, I enjoyed all of them including Hellworld and Deader. The latest one that had the different actor playing Pinhead was terrible but I've seen it several times now and at least it's gory and only 75 and some odd minutes long.

Side note...I got a copy of Slumber Party Massacre early and while it is no masterpiece it certainly is entertaining enough at only 77 minutes. Transfer is good enough as is the sound and I quite enjoyed the 23 minute making of. The weirdest thing on the disc is an interview with the guy that plays the neighbor in the movie. Now much older he's a strange fellow. Most of the interview does't make much sense and he goes into some weird poem reading sound effects making tirade that's so embarrassing I almost couldn't sit through the whole thing. Still, this was well worth the $14.99 from Family Video

It won't be long before they start interviewing the caterers and the guy that holds the microphone . Is Red Shirt Pictures still the outfit that's producing these extras? Some of these interviews just seem to be quickly slapped together, featuring people with bored looks on their faces just jabbering on.

"Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth" is really the last enjoyable of the bunch, which is sad since it is the successor to the best entry of the series, "Hellbound: Hellraiser II." It would be incredibly awesome, maybe even release of the year-worthy if "Scream Factory" put a package together containing all the proper cuts (unrated/uncut) of the first 3 films and at least porting over all the Anchor Bay-produced extras for the first two classics and porting over whatever extras exist for "Hell on Earth" from studios in other territories and maybe some newly produced stuff.

"Hellraiser: Bloodline" had all the makings of being a fairly decent sequel/prequel, but somewhere along the way all that went awry, which is an incredible shame because it got Miramax/Dimension off on the wrong foot and they've never been able to find the right footing ever since.

Would love to see Scream Factory issue a BD of the "Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane" with Jodie Foster.

Escape From New York! Clearly MGM doesn't know what to do with this film, except release a barebone disc each time.
I know it will never happen, but it's nice to think about.
