Actually they make 15,000 RPM drives. I have one in my Gaming PC. It's only about 70 gigs and it cost over $600. It's also SCSI instead of SATA and meant for servers instead of desktops. But as for notebook harddrives, 7200 is the fastest I've seen.

On a side note, I've seen 7200 RPM drives run cooler than some 5400 drives. I've not done a whole lot of research into the heat issue but good ventilation helps a lot.

Its been awhile since ive shopped for hard drive, glad to see they hit 15000 rpm..

Its usual for a 7200 rpm to generate more heat, but then you factor the different company's and not all hard drives are created equal, im assuming with higher quality parts it would be possible, I was offering general information...
