I don't really take overrated as an insult though. To me I might think something is overrated, but it doesn't mean I don't like it. Just means it got more praise than it should have. But then again it's all opinions so it really doesn't matter anyways.

But this thread seems like a hipster thread in a sense everyone is just listing movies because they were either blockbusters or everyone else likes them Or we just can't live up to their high class tastes. Although I don't see this thread ending good though. Threads like these just turn into a bunch of people bickering just because someone doesn't agree with their opinion.

I'll give billy some backup, Avengers is overrated. Good enough movie but everyone keeps talking about how it is everything a comic book movie should be - and they are right if all you want to be is a comic book movie. The end is hokey, there is no real sense of dread or anything as they had already announced Phase 2 by then so you knew everyone would have another movie after it. Burton did the same thing with Batman 20 years ago and Nolan took the Batman movies and made them films, not comic book movies. Marvel is 20 years behind. Doesn't mean it is a bad film, just not a great as people say.

Won't go into all the details as I complained in other threads but the JJ Trek films are very overrated. Simply put, with sci-fi you need to get the small things right so the audience can but the big things later on. JJ can't seem to get that right. I mean, Spock is sitting in a volcano and isn't being turned into Vulcan bbq but the Enterprise can't stand the heat from the volcano?

Nolan's films are just comic book films that are ashamed to be called comic book films. That's not a good thing and it just breeds a lot of unnecessary snobbery, as well as praise for a series of films which are no more cerebral than the films they think they're better than.

Anyway, films I'd consider overrated:

- Anything directed by Tarantino or Nolan
- Deliverance (I liked it, but it wasn't the brilliant film I expected - perhaps it deserves a re-watch)
- City of God (again, I enjoyed it, but I didn't think it was anything special)
- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (Kate Winslet's character irritated me for one thing)
- Sin City (I only just realised it was even in the Top 250 - I found it dull and hollow)

Two reasons I believe Dredd to be overrated are
