It has excellent supplements, as does Late Spring with the inclusion of Tokyo-Ga.

Can't wait to see what they bring out in terms of supplements for future Ozu blus.

I just finished watching John Cassavetes: Five Films, after 11 days of getting through the entire box set. It was a thrill and a true educational experience as well as an indoctrination into the films of Cassavetes. I had to invest this amount of time to really get into his work. I finished my Cassavetes indoctrination last night with Opening Night, that I considered my 3rd favorite film (after Faces and A Woman Under the Influence). I can only wish Criterion would have included Husbands as well, as I think that is another one of his essential films. The Killing of a Chinese Bookie was probably my least favorite (even though I watched both the 1976 and 1978 versions). Finally, I liked Shadows as well, as Cassavetes was still very fresh at filmmaking.

Overall, I am happy and proud to say that I am now wiser and more knowledgable about John Cassavetes.

Thank you Criterion, as always.

..... On to the next movie (or box set) now.

That copy has gone now. This is pretty disappointing. I'd really like to see this film but I don't want to buy the Criterion or BFI release if there is a better transfer available, and there are many other films on my wantlist that are up to scratch.

Why would it be so hard to find a copy of the 4K restoration release? Do we know for sure this Blu-ray import from Australia is better? I do wish Criterion would update their release for the newer transfer/remaster.

I lurk the Australian eBay a fair amount and it rarely pops up - when it does, I advise paying whatever is necessary. Seems this seller didn't realise he should have put it to auction rather than buy it now, could have made a nice sum for himself...

They have it. They just haven't released it yet.

On another note, I will be celebrating Tax Day by seeing Brazil (Director's Cut) at 4:30 PM at a local theater.

Would it be possible for Criterion to get the rights to Christine. Would be sweet.

It was hinted at in two of their new years drawings. Word is is that Criterion was waiting for Alfonso Cuaron to approve the transfer on it but he was too tangled up with Gravity to give it his attention.
Luckily though they did a closet video with him a few months back so that means hes been to their offices to give it a look or do features for it, so its gotta be pretty close to being done by now.
Just a matter of waiting!

It better be soon. It's the best road movie made to date, in my opinion.

I don't really keep up with this thread as much as I used to so I apologize if this has been addressed, but is there any rumor/hint of a Refn film being released by Criterion? There was a closet video with him last year iirc

Could be a July release. As good as June looks July could be even better. Historically CC saves the best for Nov and July...

My favorite is July of 2010.

I believe the film was hinted at in two New Year's drawings. It's only a matter of time.

Which is why the timing of the B&N sales is perfect.
