I have two little kids and I couldn't take that chance, you really couldn't tell by the photo on the box, I did no research when I picked it up.

It didn't used to be that way, but it's possible they changed it. The way I personally count, which I think most would agree, is each movie counts as 1 (so a disc with two movies would count as 2) and each tv show season counts as 1 (so a complete series would count as however many seasons there were, but each season no matter how many discs counts as 1). Maybe someday I'll go through and do my own count to make it accurate, but I doubt I'll ever get around to it.

Unless a person is watching movies 24/7, having over 2000 blu-rays means nothing, and most likely still buying more. There is no way, that anybody can watch all of those movies. I bet most of them are still sealed. That's called: Hoarding! A person can boast about having 8000 blu-rays, and I still wouldn't be impressed. It only shows, how much money they're wasting. Why keep buying, and hoarding blu-ray movies, when they can't even watch the ones they already have.

I've actually watched about 80% of my collection and I am slowly cutting that closer to 90%. That's pretty darn good IMHO.

Isn't funny how members, with no collection listed, are the most critical.

My collection is private, and I don't feel the need to post and expose it for the whole world to see.

Great, if only you could keep about 98% of your post private, as well.

I posted this in another thread recently where other members were displaying the same ignorant attitude as you:

I've commented in the over 1000 blu-ray owners thread twice, once stating that I went over 1000, which is what the thread is intended for, and the second time I was responding to a member about some members being dishonest with their collections. Too me it's just a bit of fun, though maybe to others it's more than that, like being part of a club or something, who knows, nor do I care . I don't seem to ever hear people with large collections commenting that they don't understand how anyone can own a smaller collection of 100-300 films, at least not until after judgements on their collecting habits have shown their ugly faces. IMO for anyone to even think about this, particularly when they simply happen to see the title of the over 1000's blu-ray thread, demonstrates that it does bother them to some degree, you wouldn't think about it at all otherwise. Not only that, far too many assumptions get made about members habits, opinions get formed such as "they can't possibly have the time to watch them all". A bit of a foolish thing to say when you have no idea about other members lives.

I'm 32 years old, I've loved this hobby since I was young, having a nice home theatre and a collection of films I enjoy to go with it has always been a goal of mine. My fiancee and I don't have any children (personally I don't want kids, I'm not overly fond of them) which gives us a lot of leisure time every week, between 60 and 70 hours. This makes it very easy to fit in 2 films on weekdays and 6-8 over the weekend (depending on a movies running time), sometimes more, and still have plenty of time left over to go out, socialise, go on holidays, and do other things. My collection doesn't just cater to me, but my fiancee as well. With catalogue titles, what goes into my collection is pretty much preplanned. There is about 40-50 titles currently available I am wanting that I am yet to purchase (and about 100 upgrades in my fiancee dvd collection), and roughly 100 titles I'm still waiting on to be released on Blu. After that, there won't be much else added to my collection other than newly made movies.

I'll say I've watched 95% of my movies I've collected over the years. Approximately 2k movies @ 1 a day takes slightly more than 5 years.
As for wasting money, it costs easily double what I pay for each movie to go see 1 movie in the theatre. Plus ownership, I part out my movies, digital copies get sold as do most slips. Preorder pricing, dmr points, sony points, 50% off sales on CC titles, it helps. DVDs go to my mom who watches after my father who is bed bound, so its a good collection that makes numerous people happy in my immediate life. My car hobby is one of self happiness and ever increasing expense.

That would depend on how long they have been collecting them and the rate of purchase now wouldn't it

I am probably at about 90%. And that 10% is basically catalog releases of movies I have seen where I have not had the time to "re-watch" in Blu-ray

My collection is also used by other family members, so some of the purchases I make are because my wife or her disabled sister (and others) can watch them. So I am like you, I will add to my collection for the same reason as you "makes numerous people happy in my immediate life".
