Just moved the table out of what will be the theater room. I love the game but moving the table was a chore. Now of course I don't have the space, I originally thought I would have. The table so it needs to be moved again. But back to the room.

My screen will be 124"W X142"D X 70"H 16:9 I was thinking of going scope. I might just do that as the difference is 7"D and 17"H

fwiw, I have a 125" scope screen and a 120" 1.85 screen. If I had to keep just one, it would definitely be the scope screen.

If you don't mind, pls explain why do you feel that way? I was thinking if I did 16:9 then I could have the best of both worlds. If I do scope then I'd have to implement some type of masking system or just live with the blk bars if I do decide to watch 16:9 content on my scope screen.

Decisions.

The main reason is that what I love the most about watching movies in my theater is taking in a good scope movie. There is just something more immersive about watching a movie in that viewing ratio that trumps 1.85 material. It is true that I would be missing out on some quality 1.85 movies if I just had the scope screen, but the benefit for the scope movies is worth it.

Having horizontal black bars on scope material would be a far greater distraction for me than having vertical bars for 1.85 material. Also, masking 1.85 material on a scope screen is a lot easier to do than masking 2.35 material on a 1.85 screen.

I don't watch too much TV on it though, so you have to take that into consideration. Its probably 80% movies and 20% tv/sports.

Makes sense. A scope does give you the full immersion feeling. Most of todays movies are filmed in scope anyway.

I doubt that I would do much TV viewing there. There is only a handful of shows that I watch and thats what the TV is there for LOL. Time will tell. Bit of a ways off from doing the screen.

Someone needs to come up with an adjustable screen and that would negate need for masking.

Well before you decide scope or 16:9, I'd ask how you are going to implement things projector side? I'm just going to use the zoom method initially. Someday I want to get my hands on an anamorphic lens. Thing is I have a motorized zoom, so its not that hard to switch formats. If I had a manual lens where I needed to reach up, or get a step stool, it would be all bets off. That isn't happening.

I see you went with James over at Jamestown Screens? I know there is a bit of a wait at times, but were you pretty happy with everything in the end?

I agree with you. Adjusting things manually gets old real quick. I have a motorized lens as well and will be using zoom. No need for a lens unless you really want one. Or if the projector you decide to go with in the future requires one.

Yeah no issues at all other than the small wait time. My friend actually ordered one first, which I helped to put together with him. Getting all the waves out of the screen material can be a little bit tricky, but it was much easier on the 2nd go around for my screen. Can't beat it for the price.

Good point. I would probably keep the 1.85 screen if I didnt have the auto switching feature of the AE4000 or an A-lens.

Wow, thanks for the heads up. Yeah these guys are new to me. Seem to be pretty positive reviews over at AVS and some high end installs. Sounds to me like they have their own material as well. Def going to be researching this option more.

Quick Edit:

Whoa! I see AVS even picked up their product as a re-seller so they just got serious. I can get the masking panels with Jamestown but this material sounds like a good compromise between the Elite A4k and the CenterStageXD.

That thing is significantly more than the Jamestown with the CenterStageXD but I keep reading about how guys are happier with that weave. I just keep thinking if/when I ever get a true 4K projector down the road, I'll kick myself for not going this route at this stage of the game.

Good luck bud! I am seething in envy that you can get a house with a basement. They are non-existant here in OK because of the dirt.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Thanks man. It is good to be getting all this gear (well and my wife) out of the parents basement. Although, home buying has to be one of the scariest things I have ever done. If everything comes together with the loan it will be 18 more days now.

Thanks! Yeah I am on the road a lot so I see a lot of homes down near you and also in Texas. I always think "Jeez these people are all rocking mansions". Then you realize its a slab foundation" and they actually have less square footage than I will have. I still love Minnesota but this winter has been the most brutal that I can remember. Sometimes I wonder if it's worth it.

Great space! My advise is to build a wall somewhere to help improve the acoustics in your room especially with the bass. The good news is you should have plenty of length to do your fake screen wall and two rows of seating.

Well I packed up all the gear the other night. That was kind of bitter sweet as I have no idea when I'll be able to fire up the projector again.

I struggle a bit with how much do I want to do right off the bat, and how aggressive do I want to get with my plans for the room versus just saying "you know what, F .. it, I want to watch something down here, and enjoy the room now".

For instance, to paint ceiling black or to leave it white? I could just leap off the deep end paint it back before I move anything down there. Could be finished by next week. Sure would be easy at this point, or do I stay white, and hang some black acoustic panels in front of the screen (mindful of how its a very low ceiling actually)?

Second. The carpet dilemma. I really want to put a riser in for a second row and have it under the carpet. Do I get a quote to have the existing rug pulled away from the wall and modified? Existing carpet is not the perfect color but its in okay shape and remember the room is 14x32. Or do I just save up, and put in new carpet and have it cut right away to work with a riser and stage in front of the screen wall at a later date? Carpet with installation will easily set me back the cost of that Falcon Screen. Holding out for both along with the screen wall fabric and stage/riser materials will take time... I figure lucky to have that completely wrapped up by Christmas given some of the other projects that need addressing.

So from people who have done this before, did you leave your rig essentially boxed up to do the whole project right from start to finish or did you do things incrementally in stages?
