I'm interested to see where Britt will end up, as he is a intriguing talent. You would think he'd be a little bit wiser knowing that this is his last serious contract chance (after this make or break it year contract) He said in a ESPN article talking about his visit with the Patriots that he's most likely going to make up his mind in 3 days (article was posted yesterday)

Vick to give up his #7 since Geno has it before he came. Classy.

Steelers snag Lance Moore on a 2 year deal.

The New York Daily News' Manish Mehta reports DeSean Jackson is unwilling to restructure his $10.5 million salary to expedite a trade, and may ultimately be released by the Eagles.

Quote:
"Philly is trading him or cutting him. That's a fact," a source told Mehta. "They don't want him." Cutting Jackson would save $6.5 million against the 2014 cap, and perhaps more importantly, shave $11 million off Philly's 2015 salary cap commitments. The Eagles would obviously much rather trade Jackson, but his unwillingness to restructure and the Eagles' intent to cut him make a trade increasingly unlikely. The Jets and Panthers would lead the chase if/when Jackson is released. San Francisco and Seattle are also reportedly interested.
--

Raiders coach Dennis Allen expressed confidence new QB Matt Schaub would be Oakland's starting quarterback for several seasons.

Quote:
Allen also said the Schaub signing means the Raiders do not have to get a quarterback in the draft. Oakland is putting a lot of faith into a player benched in favor of Case Keenum last season. Hopefully someone in the organization realizes Schaub is not the long or even short-term answer at quarterback before it is too late

He's a hack. If you want to read good Jets beat reporters, go for Myers or Dyer.

If Britt puts his mind to it (and stays healthy) he has the talent to be one of the better receivers in the game.

He is not welcome back in Nashville after his performance in 2013 though. Pathetic doesn't even describe it. He dropped EVERYTHING.

I think the dude is done, to be honest. He has matured as a person, so at least he's got that going for him.

Will probably meet with half the league before someone signs him

WR #1: 165 career catches, 2,195 yards, 15 TDs

WR #2: 167 catches, 2,385 yards, 13 TDs

Why did DET pay Tate 5 yr/31 mill when they could have had Lafell for 3/9....confused by that

SEA was a run-heavy team. Tate is younger, faster, has better hands. He is just better than LaFell. Tate only dropped 7 passes in his four year career in SEA. LaFell had 77 targets as a rookie and 38 catches, 56 targets the next year with 36 catches, 76 targets the next with 44 catches and last year he had 92 targets with 53 catches.

I understand some of those were unable to catch but I think with just those stats you can see Tate is head and shoulders better than LaFell.

I also think LaFell is the 3rd receiver on the Patriots' roster which would make sense because 3m/yr sounds like 3rd WR $$. If you want to look at bad deals then look to the Jets with Decker. Overpaid for a worse receiver.

. You know very little of NFL contracts if you think Decker was a bad deal.

I wouldn't call myself an expert on it, but I understand it. What Idzik did with Deckers contract was place all of the guaranteed money in the first two years. In the third year if he doesn't perform then we can cut him with not a terrible amount of dead space eating up the cap. So essentially it's a 2 year 15 million dollar deal in its most basic form. The Lions chose to spread it out a little more over the length of Tate's contract, so if they want to cut Tate after 2 years they will take a bigger cap hit. So Idzik retains more flexibility while paying elite #2 money to an elite #2 receiver. It's not that bad of a contract. Most people see 7.25 million per year and that's what the Jets will have to pay and that's not entirely correct.

Also Decker>Tate

I didn't look into the details of the Decker contract but I was happy with Tate's. I didn't know only 15m was guaranteed but I still think you guys are gonna want out of that contract (unless you get a good #1)

Also, I don't know Decker that well of a player but the times I've watched him.. you guys can have him.

I am curious to see how well Decker can do in improved coverage. He was facing 3rd CBs last year so unless Jets pull DeSean or some pick a WR in the 1st, he'll probably be the #1. I hope he does well cause he seems nice.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the Jets aggressively pursue Jackson if the Eagles can't find a trade partner and release him.

I look at his year with duck armed Tebow as his QB and he had 600 yds. with 8 TDs. That's not too bad considering who was throwing the ball to him. Something could be said of his disappearing in last years playoffs which would be fair criticism, but so did the Bronco offense in the playoffs, especially the SB. It's more than just about guaranteed money when looking at a players contract. The signing bonus is also important.

For instance Desean Jackson's contract is a little over 12 million. His signing bonus was 10 million, so hypothetically if we trade for him, his cap hit for us would be 10.25 million this year. Similarly if you cut a player, his signing bonus accelerates and you have to pay the remainder of it then.

I don't know man. The days of Tanny as our GM are long gone. Idzik is like the anti Tanny.

Reportedly they've offered a 4th and a 5th for him. Eagles are still holding out for a third. The problem with this situation for the Eagles is that there are only a very limited amount of teams that can take his contract since everyone blew their loads the first week of free agency or were cap strapped to begin with. The only other two possible suitors would be the Browns or the Raiders who have the type of cap space to just take on the contract without having to make other moves. Also Jackson has refused to restructure his contract to facilitate a trade. Jets seem like a good trade partner because they will not get into a bidding war if he hits the open market. The two teams who have the cap space would naturally wait for him to be released and then bid for his services. The Jets would rather make a trade for him so they can avoid a bidding war. Of course the Eagles would rather get some return for him rather than cut him. If we could get him for a 4th and 5th I'd be ecstatic. Even with his contract we'd have a ton of cap space left.

I say it's about a 20% chance we get him. Jackson doesn't seem like an Idlzik guy. I would love to get him. Jackson would command a double team because of his speed and would leave Decker and Kerley to work underneath. We would actually have a decent offense for once.

I would be very cautious of him. He isn't a team player, and he certainly takes plays off.

It would have been very expensive for Vick to be #7. If he wanted to get #7 he would have had to pay Nike for all the unsold Geno jerseys, and that would likely have cost at least a couple hundred thousand dollars. In 2012 Adrian Peterson wanted to change his jersey number but found out it would have cost him $1 million to buy the unsold inventory of jerseys, and while Geno wouldn't have as many unsold jerseys as Peterson there are still a lot of Geno jerseys and the cost would have been significant, especially considering Vick just got out of bankruptcy. In addition that's all assuming Geno would be willing to give up #7 in the first place.

There is more to jackson then we know.

@RossTuckerNFL: Very rare that player of DJax's caliber in this situation. Can't wait for details that come out once he's an ex-Eagle.

Rams showing interest in Sanchez. Seems like a good fit as Bradford sucks and gets injured often.

--

According to ProFootballTalk, the 49ers are "very interested" in DeSean Jackson.

Quote:
Predictably, GM Trent Baalke's denial on this matter carries little weight. The Niners have been aggressively trying to upgrade their receiving corps this offseason, as they reportedly pursued free agents Golden Tate, Julian Edelman and Hakeem Nicks. Jackson, a California native who played his college ball at Cal, would bring a long speed dimension to a unit that currently features possession guys in Michael Crabtree and Anquan Boldin. The Eagles' asking price on D-Jax is likely sinking as they've exposed their hand. No one around the league believes there's any way he's back in Philly.
49ers make a lot of sense of DeSean but so do about 7 other teams.
