I have placed an order on 2 Blurays of the sale 5 days ago, and they haven't shipped yet. Does anyone know why is this happening?
Are they waiting for the sale to end to start shipping?

They, Twilight Time, are a small operation and may not have even sent the discs to Screen Archives to ship. May not even operate on weekends. The special sale will probably swamp them with orders.

dude, they haven't even shipped all the March orders yet.
they are screwed as far as how many orders they have to get out.
honestly I think people should just accept the fact that their orders from TT could take 4 weeks to arrive.
I've adjusted all my expectations regarding when my orders from TT will arrive.

Default Lost Horizon

I'm thinking of making one more order while the current TT sale is going on. One of the titles I'm considering is Lost Horizon, which would be a blind buy for me. The customer reviews on Amazon.com average out to 4-1/2 stars, but the reviews on a couple of the bluray forums I've looked at aren't too flattering at all.

Amazon reviews:
http://www.amazon.com/Lost-Horizon-P...owViewpoints=1

blu-ray.com review:
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Lost-.../52517/#Review

HTF review:
http://www.hometheaterforum.com/topi...lu-ray-review/

So is this only a good movie if you fell in love with it when it first came out or for the oddity of it? Or is it a good movie in its own right? I'm thinking the appeal of it is because it was so controversial and not for being a good film. If that's the case, I'm not sure I want it.

Any thoughts/opinions?

(FWIW, I did take a brief peek at it on youtube, but I really don't like checking out movies that way. I'd much rather have my first viewing on a big screen).

My couple experiences from ordering in stock Twilight Time items has generally been 2-3 weeks from placing the order to arriving at my house. SAE aren't particularly fast when it comes to sending out orders so just sit back, forget you placed the orders and be surprised when they arrive in your mail. It does vary though, some people get their orders in a timely manner, luck of the draw. I'm sure with the sale that went on, they're going to be quite slow though.

Doesn't matter to me, my order is coupled with a pre-order item so I don't expect to see it until late April haha.

I went back today and ordered Cover Girl with the sale price. I had decided against it a few days ago when I ordered Swamp Water and the two Flint movies, but I reconsidered over the weekend and realized that I'd be kicking myself in the butt after the fact if I missed out on this one. It's an important Rita Hayworth movie, and the picture quality comparisons that people posted here a few months back convinced me that it will be a good buy despite the low site rating.

All orders for me take 4 weeks always. It sucks. When they do ship it's usually 2 day though.

But the Blurays on sale, are old Blurays. I thought SAE had them already in stock.
They are not new upcoming releases!

It's one of those big famous flops like Heaven's Gate or Ishtar or Waterworld where just the fact it was so expensive and flopped so badly caused everyone to think it was the worst movie ever at the time it came out. However, with that kind of flop, time tends to lead to re-evaluations. Time has certainly vindicated Heaven's Gate, for example. Lost Horizon definitely is not thought of as a misunderstood classic, it's now usually thought of as a pretty weird and pretty silly movie, but that's a big improvement from where it used to be. I used to have a book from about 1978 called "the 50 worst films of all time" that included it. :P

Thank you very much for the reply. After much hemming and hawing, I decided against that title and to stick with most of my original choices. I figure if it's that bad (or at least a very slow seller), it might be around long enough to get another crack at it if I really want it.

For my 2nd order (of this current sale), I ended up going with:

Experiment in Terror
Pal Joey
Philadelphia
Sleepless in Seattle

Finito! (for now)

I would like to see you make the case for Joe Dirt.

Well, it helps to realize that TT can't just decide to add those studios as licensors. They have to convince the studios in question to do it. If the studios don't want to play, there's nothing that TT can do about it.

In the case of Paramount, they are licensing a crapload of their catalog titles to Olive Films.

Anyway, while I do enjoy to some degree several of the films that you listed, there are dozens of other films that I think are far more deserving of a Blu-ray release. In fact, at this point, there are so damn many films I'd like to see released on Blu-ray that I've stopped getting worked up about any specific titles.

Plus, I wouldn't put Melvin and Howard out of the range of Criterion either. They are Demme fans and they're pretty friendly with Universal.
