Good News!

Will be shooting next year and will be taking place in Cuba, unless Castro dies

Here's the interesting part. Lerner says that The Expendables 4 will begin shooting next year, or at least 'maybe'. "Next year we're maybe filming The Expendables 4. "The action will be set in Cuba, but only if Fidel Castro is still alive, otherwise the story will change." So it looks like The Expendables, or at least somebody, are going after Castro. Now that's old school. Incidentally, today The Expendables 4 first appeared on the IMDb, the first person on the cast list (rumored) is Randy Couture.

The Bad!

At age 67 you gotta wonder how much longer Sylvester Stallone will slug it out in action movies. Will he finish up on the genre anytime soon? The answer seems to be... mostly. Stallone has given an interview with wsj.com in which he hints that he'll be winding things down: "I believe that the last film I did, “Expendables III” we took it to the max and I thought, there isn’t much further I can go with this. So I started to speak to the powers that be. I want to go back and do films like “Cop Land” and the early “Rocky”’s".

Thoughts... well firstly, The Expendables. I'd thought The Expendables 3 might be Stallone's final Expendables movie, the above pretty much confirms it. We know that The Expendables 4 is coming and that it'll likely shoot next year in Bulgaria. Stallone is probably not going to be in it. I have a feeling that Lutz, Rousey and Co. will feature in that movie. But while Stallone has promised The Expendables 3 to rival The Raid, and the finale is certainly scripted to take a serious shot at it, I don't think it'll be Stallone's last action movie. Avi Lerner has said Rambo V is being negotiated. Remember, Stallone's action career started out with First Blood. Will Rambo V be his swansong?

It could also be that the 'Rambo negotiations' are not for a movie, but actually for a TV show, and that this was lost in communication. This is my current surmise, that there'll be no Rambo V but, in fact, that the August talk of a TV show is what the real deal will be about. In Creed (mentioned in the above interview), Stallone will take on the role of mentor. This could possibly be the role he'll play in a supposed Rambo TV series, a bit like Eddie Murphy's role as mentor in the Beverly Hills Cop TV series. But keep in mind, that TV series was shitcanned and the pilot didn't even get airtime. Personally though, I think Rambo deserves better than both TV and Nu Boyana...

I knew Sly would stop at EX3 but I figured the series would stop as well, It looks like all of the young cast will be taking the throne for EX4

I would be more the fine with The Expendables carrying on without Sly in the lead role.I think that The Expendables franchise should continue on for many more moves.You don't have to kill of Sly/Barney but kind of have him in the Mikey Rouke role for the next Expendables while Lee Christmas aka Jason Staham takes over as the lead and leader of his own crew.


As far as Sly doing more action movies I like the idea of The Expendables III being his finale at least in terms of "Action" role for the series and that his finale action movies should be Rambo V.

Personally I think they're both awful movies, but for som weird reason still enjoyable to watch. Liked the second one best.

I thought it was Lerner just BSing when I saw this, so I thought nothing of it. I will be surprised if Sly does this one.

EDIT: No Sly = No Deal, it sounds like a bad idea.

Sadly I totally agree. I love these but they are not really good movies. They are more just fun get togethers with old friends. I would rather they end it here. Only point for these movies is to bring back old action stars not to continue with youngsters. May as well make a different movie, one with better overall writing and story.

Neither movie is anything special, although surprisingly the second movie is fresh on Rotten Tomatoes despite being all over the map, in my opinion. I like the tone of the first movie better.

The Fast and Furious movies have turned into what The Expendables was going to be like.

What happened to the rumors of an Expendables TV show? They could get actors like Mark Valley, Mark Dacascos and Max Martini who can already do small screen action.

Pierce Brosnan to star in 'the next' Expendables movie

Pierce Brosnan has agreed to star in ''the next'' 'Expendables' film.

The 60-year-old actor has been offered a part in the action films - which have been written by and star Sylvester Stallone - by producer Avi Lerner, who would ''love'' to work with the hunk.

Talking to ShortList magazine, he said: ''The offer has come in for the next 'Expendables'. I just worked over in Bulgaria with Avi Lerner who makes them. He said 'Would you like to be in 'The Expendables'? I'd love to have you', and I said 'Why not?'. So we'll see.''

Quizzed on what film in the franchise he's referring to, the Hollywood A-Lister added: ''I have no idea which one it would be, I just said 'Yes'. It could be seven!''

'The Expendables' was released in 2010 and proved to be commercially successful, and two years later a sequel hit the big screen grossing over $310 million worldwide.

The third installment will be released in August this year, starring film favourites Stallone, Jason Statham and Jet Li, who reprise their roles as leader of the titular group of mercenaries Barney Ross, second-in-command Lee Christmas and martial arts specialist Yin Yang, respectively. '

Seagal seems to be the most requested, maybe he will finally make an appearance in 4? Also Michael Biehn has changed his mind and would like to appear in an expendables film.

It's good to know Beihn changed his mind, but for me he already made up for putting Sly on blast publicly after turning down the first one when he did the voice for "Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon". That game is more of an 80's action throwback than Expendables 1 and 2 combined. Phenomenal soundtrack to.

As for my picks for part 4:

Seagal because obviously.

Kurt Russell in a Bruce Willis/Harrison Ford sort of role. He's another one that initially turned Sly down for the first film but now sounds like he's marching to a different beat since the films did make money after all.

Michael Jai White, he was supposed to get Terry Crews' part but turned it down when he was told he'd have to audition first.

Brian Thompson - Night Shasher from Cobra and Shao Khan in MK: Annihilation. He'd be the bad guy.

John Leguizamo. Yeah I know he's a comedic actor but I think he could bring some physicality to the role. The dude can do drama when the role calls for it and he's also in pretty good shape for his age. Picture him with a shaved head, facial hair, and some tattoos, he could own it. He could be bad or good, but I'd prefer him as a villain. For all it's faults, he pretty much saved "Land of the Dead" for me as the bad guy.

I loved him in Land of the Dead, he was one of the best parts, and I like that movie.

I'd love for Russell and Beihn to be in the next one, they're my top two choices.
