It's only £20.50 on Amazon

If they are then it hasn't been announced yet. There's still time of course but it's probably looking doubtful now that the other three versions have been announced and put on sale.

The same thing happened with the Gollum/Bilbo statue for the AUJ:EE so I wasn't expecting us to get them, I just let that comment in theonering.net's story about a special edition (which is likely just the steelbook) get my hopes up.

One of the worst posters for the film makes the DVD cover. Who decides these things? It was the same with the Theatrical Blu Ray release of AUJ.

This has put me in two minds as to what to order, i like steels but given the option between 2D and 3D i tend to get the 3D...and the first Hobbit had no UK 3D steel of the theatrical release so i got the 3D lenticular version. Now it seems they have gone the opposite way which will make my collection look some what odd.

I think i will be making my mind up on release day.

I've ordered the 3D version of the theatrical release. When the EE is announced I'll order the steel and normal version of them.

Sainsbury's are doing a Lego Mini Set exclusive - it'll be in stores only (as their website no longer sells physical media) and, according to that link, will be £12.99.

Wow this is different! Pity it's not the 3D otherwise i might go for this. Still leaning towards the standard 3D version but might just end up going 2D for the theatrical version. Then get whatever limited edition 3D version they bring out for the extended.

Ha, that's really cool. Might go with that version as I can't see a better price for the theatrical version and there's a Sainsbury's next to my Uni.

I'm hoping that HMV or somebody are doing an exclusive 2D steelbook.

Didn't happen for the first, next to no chance for this one.

There was a 2D steelbook for the first one, available from Amazon. I own it. Not sure if it was exclusive to Amazon.

The steelbook for the first one was reduced to £9.99 in a couple of places, so I guess it was a poor seller for Amazon so they sold the excess stock off to other sellers.
I was hoping for a 2D steelbook for Smaug too. I don't think there's one being issued anywhere. At least it made me realise I have Blu-Ray OCD,

why is Amazon.co.uk making such a big deal with this comment:

Product Description
Please note this is a region B Blu-ray and will require a region B or region free Blu-ray player in order to play.

when in the product title it states 'region free'

??

3d steelbook slightly cheaper at play.com. £19.99 from entertainment store. Don't forget 8.4% topcashback and 3% quidco too.

That was my plan but I ended up missing it at the cinema. Might pick up that Sainsburys exclusive, unless ASDA etc have the standard copy cheaper.
EDIT: And I suppose now that Sainsburys are instore only for blu-rays, it will depend on whether my store stocks it...

.
