To be honest, I don't know how much clearer of a transfer we even want. Some of the F/X, notably in the final confrontation with the Joker, are not aging rather gracefully.

While the original version should always remain available, I actually wouldn't mind it if they did a semi-"special edition" of sorts and re-composited some of the original elements with newer technology. I know, I can't believe I am saying it, either - but that last scene is just so incredibly jarring to me in it's current form in HD quality.

I'll put myself in the corner now just for suggesting it, I deserve it.

Well, it probably looked even more jarring in the theaters with 35mm film projected onto a large screen. I also think this movie is just naturally drabby and soft looking - never going to look very good.
