Yes, Daniel wasn't suppose to leave the bunker, but after Sarah told him that Hiroshi loves him and that if the he was the one captured and not Julia, that he would do the same thing. He probably got the idea that he could switch places to see if that were true. Hiroshi and Scythe know each other (for how long I wonder) and that history allows him to know how he would play this out.

Yes!

The infection will spread to a second season: Syfy is renewing its dark bio-thriller Helix.
Syfy has commissioned another 13 episodes of the freshman drama series from producers Ronald D. Moore and Steven Maeda. Helix followed a Centers for Disease Control team’s efforts to contain the outbreak of a strange virus in a remote facility. “Helix has built one of our most loyal and consistent audiences in its first season on Syfy,” said Bill McGoldrick, an original content executive at Syfy. “We look forward to growing this passionate audience in what promises to be an even more memorable second season.” Helix has averaged 2.1 million viewers and 1 million adults 18-49 including DVR playback since its premiere.
As for the season two premiere date, Syfy clarified: Helix will return in early 2015.

Good news! Early on, I was thinking that the premise would be rather limited, unless the disease managed to spread to a significant part of the world's population. Then we'd get, essentially, the movies Outbreak or Contagion stretched out into a long TV series.

But in the recent episodes, they've certainly introduced some other factors that send the series in a very different direction.

I'm glad it got S2.
Is that a new rule that all shows get 10-12 eps per season? OK, game of thrones is too expensive, but Defiance, Continuum, Helix.

There is no "rule" regarding how many episodes a show gets. It's part of the deal that the network contacts with the production company. Cable networks do not have the market coverage that broadcast networks get, and therefore cannot afford to shell out an equivalent license fee that a broadcast network pays.

Thirteen (or thereabouts) episodes has been pretty standard for cable networks since they started providing original programming in the early 80s. It's certainly nothing new. There certainly have been counter-examples (Farscape, the Stargate shows, Battlestar Galactica, et alia), but those are relatively rare.

And Continuum is actually a purely Canadian production that Syfy licenses for US airing. It's not a production that's commissioned by Syfy. The same is true of Bitten and Lost Girl (as opposed to Haven and Being Human, which are co-productions with a Canadian network, but were instigated by Syfy). Like cable networks here, Canadian networks -- even the broadcast ones -- generally cannot afford to finance more than 13 episodes per season of a show.

Also note that even with the broadcast networks, the initial episode order for a new series is 13 episodes. If the show does well, the network may will increase the order by anywhere from 2 to 11 episodes. And shows that debute in the late winter or early spring also get just a 13-episode order. If they get renewed for a second season, they will probably get a 22-episode order for Season 2, but it's not set in stone. The networks have lately been looking at the idea of having more shows with fewer episodes per. This will become more common if we start seeing more international co-productions.

You have to keep in mind that one episode takes place over 1 day (24 hours) The CDC group including Alan and Jules have only been at the facility for roughly 2 weeks. Season 2 will start with Day 14.

True enough, but not necessarily relevant to my point. I was hoping that the 13-episode story at hand would have some sort of conclusion, so that he wouldn't be left hanging if the series wasn't successful enough for a continuation. And if that was the case, it would have to be a conclusion that left enough open to continue with more seasons.

With the way things have gone, they actually can resolve the Narvik contagion aspect of the story in tonight's episode (which is airing as we speak), and continue in future seasons with
[Show spoiler]dealing with the immortals, and what's responsible for their existence
.

Watched the pilot the other night in the UK, I'm not sure when we'll get the rest. It was decent enough. Nice to know it's going on a bit longer.

I thought this was actually pretty awful. Can't believe it's the same guy who created the best TV series of all time (BSG) in my opinion of course

Watched the pilot of BSG again over the weekend, just to make sure i wasn't remembering BSG with rose-tinted glasses. But no, The acting, dialogue, drama and special effects were on an entirely different level, all just as great as i remembered it.

Well, for the record, Moore didn't have a whole lot of hands-on part in this. It was pretty much Cameron Porsandeh's (the creator and showrunner) baby. Moore made a few suggestions and lent his name to it. Kind of like J.J. Abrams and the half-dozen or so shows his name is on.

I love the series with all it's warts and weirdness, but just to be clear the show was not created by or written by Ronald D Moore. He is only a producer as I guess he liked the concept. Mr Moore is currently busy developing both I Robot 2 for Fox, producing and writing on Outlander for Starz and also involved with Star Wars Rebels in some way for Disney.

Busy man

Very nice!! As much as liked the confines of the Arctic base(and it was creepy), I'm glad to see the the story shift to other parts of the world.
