Not true at all. The ES line up are the only Sony A/V receivers worth getting. They were not good before November 2006. I have put my ES receiver against Pioneer Elite, Yamaha, and Denon and it has held it's own. The GUI is one of the most advanced and easy to use. Plus, it has a 5 year warranty out of the box! I use to speak to the reps of the manufactuers listed above. It was between the Pioneer Elite, Yamaha, and the Sony ES. You see which one I have and I haven't been disappointed, yet.

BTW, the ES has HDMI 1.2. Maybe the new line will have HDMI 1.3 in the future.

i have heard from a little bird that the new lineup of ES receivers will have the xmb implemented
