USA Planet Of The Apes (1968) / Planet Of The Apes Collection - June 17, 2014

The movie has been restored few years ago, so this may be a remastered/restored version. This is just speculation at this point, of course.

Most definitely has Dawn movie money, considering how much Fox loves to reissue with it.

This is my favorite series of movies but there'd have to be substantial gains in detail or some kind of huge incentive (like the alternate version of Conquest was in 2008) for me to upgrade, I'm really happy with the existing Blu-rays.

Yes, that's likely what this is. Dawn comes out July 11th, so the timing of these falls in line with a movie money re-release

I saw this a couple months ago in the theatre and it looked great so I am assuming they used this print. A reissue would be nice.

"Damn them all to hell!" ~ oh well. I am happy with my 40-yr Evolution box set. However, I might be tempted to just upgrade Planet if it is an upgraded print and the price is right.

It's going to be hard to top those CGI Lawgiver intros, not to mention the Pong style menu buttons that bounce from left to right

In all seriousness, I love these films and if an improved print comes along on Blu-ray I will upgrade but the original Blu-rays look great IMO.

didn't they do a massive DVD set years ago that had the films sans Burton's version and of course Rise but it had all the TV movies as well. Perhaps that will include those.

It looks to me like this article was published several years ago and refers to the master used for the first Blu-ray release. There's no date on the article, but its placement on page 13 of 17 in the Community Library, along with the articles surrounding it, indicate to me that the article is several years old.

I thought the pong-style menus were kinda cool. Something different. The CGI Lawgiver on the other hand was kinda weird, and the CGI was pretty bad.

I agree with this - I was thinking the same thing when I read it - it seems like old information.

Yep, and I still have my copy. All of the movies are inside a bust of Ceasar's head.

From what I could find out, Sean McKee has been with IVC since September 2011. The Apes films hit Blu-ray in 2008. The article has a 2014 copyright date at the bottom of the screen. It seems to be talking about a new restoration, but why scan it at only 2K if the present Blu-ray looks so good. The article states that it was mainly a cleanup (dirt removal, etc,) to further preserve the image. Is there a plan to release this to theaters this Spring/Summer maybe?

I think the 2014 copyright is just a site-wide copyright.

Oh, I think they look good too but the couple samples just looked better. And what to you mean CGI Lawgiver - that is as real as the apes in the movie!

I read the article some time ago, too. I know the restoration work is done, and I'd love to see a new blu-ray release.
