Depending on what Hoffman last completed, I wonder if there's an adequate way to explain Plutarch's absence in the last bit of Part 2.

I won't go into details for those who haven't read the books, but what happens to Plutarch at the very end of Mockingjay can easily be addressed in a throwaway line or narration. The book was told in the first person from Katniss's POV, so the movie can do likewise for that particular moment.

I really don't know where the series goes from here. I love Hunger Games, but Seymour Hoffman was perfect as Plutarch. I suppose they'll have to find someone to fill that role, but nobody can fill PSH's shoes.

There was only a week left of filming. They can easily work around it.

According to Slashfilm, the rest of Mockingjay Part 2 that would have featured Hoffman will be filmed digitally, allowing them to finish the film with respect to Hoffman:

I believe they did the same thing for that comedy western that John Candy was filming before he passed away. They finished the film with Candy by using digital filming processes and by piecing together dialogue from many of Candy's earlier films and television appearances.

They did something similar when Oliver Reed died of a heart attack during the filming of Gladiator.

Plutarch was also believed by Snow to be part of the plan that killed Capitol children and rebel Casualty Aides including Prim. Katniss killed President Coin for her part in the plan, but seeks no vengeance against Plutarch. He does Katniss a favor by preventing the execution of Effie Trinket and acting as a witness in Katniss's defense at her trial for the murder of Coin.

I guess it would be part of that. Of course, it's possible to get another character to do these actions but I feel its important to Plutarch and Katniss' relationship arc to have them play out as such if they can find a way.

I think you're right, especially because I remember reading that they were shooting the film in sequence as much as possible. I can't think of another scene that Plutarch plays a major role near the end of the novel/film other than the one you mentioned.

A casting shakeup:

Gwendoline Christie has replaced Lily Rabe as Commander Lyme.

The confusing thing is, there is conflicting reports if Christie is replacing Rabe only in Part 2, or both parts of Mockingjay.

Yeah, the book sucks, but it's pretty easily to split the story in two. Most of what I'm assuming will be covered in part 1 is things Katniss heard about or what was discussed after the fact, like Peeta/Johanna's capture and the rebellion in the districts. Just that is a lot of material.

They squeezed 3 movies out of the Hobbit....

I'm preparing myself for disappointment. Forcing movies into trilogies or splitting them etc is ruining film

Hm...depending on how much Rabe is in Part 1, do you think they'll reshoot the scenes with Christie? Because there's still very few reports that mention Rabe still being in Part 1.

I don't recall, but Lyme is not in the first half of Mockingjay all the much.

Shooting is still going on for at least a few more months (I think). They're shooting Part 1 and 2 at the same time, but no one knows if they shot 1 and then 2, or did a LOTR style thing and doing them at the same time.

Actually Rabe hasn't filmed any of her scenes yet.

• The decision to recast Lyme was made weeks ago, this was not a last minute decision

• Lily Rabe had not filmed any of her scenes yet, so there are no ‘reshoots’ or two actresses playing one character so the only person portraying Lyme is Gwendoline Christie

• Part 1 has NOT completed shooting

• Lyme WILL be in Part 1, I guess news outlets are confused due to the fact that people are saying Part 1 is done which it is not

• She will begin shooting when they move to Europe

• A scheduling conflict was also not the reason for Lily’s departure but that’s not something for me to disclose
