Although it's entirely possible that English subs will be included as an unlisted "bonus" (at least until such a possibility is explicitly denied by somebody at Ghibli), at this point in time buying the Cagliostro Blu-ray without a working knowledge of the Japanese language is not advisable. Best bet is to wait until people have the disc in hand to confirm or deny the presence of English subs. |

I'm soooooo jealous!
Unfortunately Greek distributors don't care about anime!! ![]() By the way, are you going to see it dubbed in Swedish, or do you keep the original there and include subtitles? Last edited by filmmusic; 04-06-2014 at 11:08 AM. |

They only show it in the original Japanese with subtitles, and I wouldn't have it any other way. ![]() |

Let me repeat: I would love to be proved wrong about Cagliostro. But until somebody has a disc in hand, given what has been officially revealed, it just isn't safe for a non-Japanese speaker to pre-order that Blu-ray. |

Hi! I'm new to this thread, but have recently started collecting the Studio Ghibli films on blu ray. I purchased Ponyo, from Amazon Uk (which unfortunately came without a slip) and thought the film was stunning! Hayao Miyazaki really does make great films! I've since purchased Howls's moving castle, and have just ordered My neighbour totoro and Kiki's delivery service.
I was wondering if anyone could recommend any other films for me to purchase next (maybe not one of Hayao Miyazaki films; i'd like to see some of the other directors.) This would be much appreciated! |

It really was an amazing film and a technical marvel. The animation is nothing short of breathtaking! It was tender and poignant. I did however feel that Hideaki Anno as Jiro lacked charisma in his voiceover delivery, it felt and sounded a bit flat compared to everyone else. I also noticed that the film was indeed presented in monoraul sound, but it was a great mix nevertheless. One of Miyazaki's best IMO and an instant buy!
Speaking of buying... If Cagliostro indeed doesn't have subs, I won't be getting it. I was on the fence as it was, as it's my least favourite of Miyazaki's theatrical works, and I can definitely live without a non-subbed version of a film that I only "like". |

Cagliostro is a favorite of mine. Actually, before I started buying movies, it was a film that I rented repeatedly (and this was before I was even a Miyazaki fan, I had stumbled onto the movie and LOVED IT so much without even realizing who had made it - keep in mind this was prior to my seeing Princess Mononoke or the US release of Spirited Away by Disney or the waves of his other films in English). I have probably seen The Castle of Cagliostro 20 or more times. I hope the restoration work is fantastic.

I am increasingly convincing myself I need (ok, want) the Miyazaki box set ![]() On the Cagliostro/subs issue, I hope the new Cagliostro does have subs, but I'll buy it regardless. I have enough subbed copies already, and like all Miyazaki's films (except TWR for obvious reasons) I have seen them enough times that I could happily watch any of them without subs now anyway. I think Cagliostro is a great film, despite it being probably the most stylistically different of Miyazaki's features. Last edited by Porco Azzurro; 04-06-2014 at 07:50 PM. |

The mono sound in The Wind Rises seems a bit odd.
You would think that in a film like that, they would try to take advantage of a full 5.1 system since I guess there are many scenes with planes flying etc., and it would sound spectacular hearing this all around you. On the other hand, maybe they wanted to make it sound like an old classic film? |
