The sheer level of utility provided by the PS3 justifies its purchase alone. When you factor in games it really becomes an AMAZING piece of hardware, espeically for the cost.

Actually, I want to sell mine, but since it was obtained during the launch window, I fear I would get very little return on my initial purchase.

Not to contradict you, but the conversation goes more like this:

Okay, don't get me wrong, I do like my 360, but sometime MS makes it too easy to poke fun at. I mean come on guys. Even my cheap 5 year old PC that I built for my kids makes less noise than my 360. Whould it have killed you not to take as many short cuts on some of the simple things.

Yeah, totally. When I bought my PS3 I thought OK, it's for games and movies. Now I've got my entire CD collection ripped to WAV sound so PS3 is my stereo too and a damn good sounding one at that. (PCM upsampling! E-Z navigation of whole audio collection using PSP as remote!)

However, on the down side, if I'm totally honest with myself I have to say I've been slightly disappointed in the games. So I've only found 5 I've liked enough to buy. (BD movies OTOH are now at 91 and they look and sound better than I imagined they could.)

Lately on these boards people have been reminding us how Sony hyped up the wondrous miracle of 1080p60 gaming -- and yet where are those games today, 18 mo. after launch? Not even in the pipeline yet.

I console myself with the other totally unexpected features which are _awesome._

There are plenty, many are simple downloadable games, many are not like Virtua Tennis, Ridge Racer 7 and WipEout HD. GT5 may well hit the native 1080p60 spot.

And Ninja Gaiden Sigma, maybe Super Stardust ...

I should have been much more careful with what I said there; I own three 1080p60 games, though for those the visuals look kinda last-gen.

I guess what I had in mind were true "next-gen looking" games qualitatively speaking. Maybe GT5P qualifies. And Wipeout I'm _very_ excited about. (Logged in over 80 hours on PSP Wipeout Pure.)

It's just that when you have games like Haze in development for donkey's years and they come out at 576p30 looking like, well you know what I mean, this wasn't the much-vaunted next gen I was drooling over. No biggie really. It will get here eventually. I should have been a bit more sceptical about the hype and the marketing in the first place.

Neither are native 1080p so are you complaining about games looking 1080p or not being told they're 1080p?

First, having spent over 100 hours playing it, I was under the impression that NGS _is_ native 1080p. Am I wrong about this -- does it draw to some lower res and then upscale? It sure doesn't look upscaled to me. The image is always extremely sharp, except in a few hopelessly fuzzy cutscenes where it looks like someone has edited in the wrong file.

As for Super Stardust I just assume (again) it is 1080p native by the sharp look of it, as compared with other titles where I know there is upscaling going on and where I can see a slight (and sometimes not-so-slight) blurriness. Not scientific so I'm happy to admit a high degree of fallibility here.

My "complaint," or rather unsatisfied expectation, was that by this point in the generation, more games would be satisfying this 1080p60 performance benchmark and doing so with something other than essentially last-gen (or intermediate-gen) assets.

Take Ridge Racer 7. A pretty game and I love it, but imperfectly realistic and seemingly no physics to speak of. As for NGS, it looks like a significantly refined and updated version of NG Black for Xbox #1. That's all I was trying to say.

Gears was crap on the PC, Halo is not that good either. There isn't one game that I would want to play on an XBox.
