According to zavvi, the spine is numbered and there's no Diamond Edition title on it, unlike the US edition, you see Aurora on the spine not Maleficent which is much better:

Urgh that cover art is horrible. Much prefer the original.

Yeah, it looks like a straightforward numbered classic release, but for the cover Amazon.uk state 'artwork to be confirmed', so we'll just have to wait and see. I hope it's released with the second extras disc so people aren't short changed. And if so I don't think this will drive down the price of the Platinum Edition because it is unique in itself; the design on the slipcase looks like it's been etched onto a mirror and the cover looks like it's been engraved onto metal, plus the discs are all picture printed, whereas this new release will probably have the boring plain blue disc. Overall I think the Platinum Edition will always be more desirable.

Well, you are talking about 2008 Disney here. 2014 Disney and 2008 Disney are very different entities, when home media is concerned I wouldn't be surprised if the UK re-release is a slipless, single disc repackaging of the original release!

I will be buying this release as I buy all the classic vintage animated Disney features on Blu Ray , and as I love Maleficent I shall be adding this to my collection! The cover art is to tie in with Angelina Jolie's Maleficent movie which will be coming out on May 30th in cinemas and I'm sure the shops will be overflowing with Maleficent models/toys etcetera , hence her prominent inclusion on the cover! I think that another great image they could have used would have been Maleficent with the flames as in the poster from the 1970's/80's which was used on the Castle label vinyl Sleeping Beauty album!

I had a look at my original release over the weekend. Its true that Disney don't make them like they used to. The slip on the original looks amazing compared to recent releases.

'If it is just a slipless single disc then £16 at Amazon or £22 at Zavvi is a hefty price tag. For this pricing I would expect something much more substantial than a single disc and boring bog-standard packaging. They should make every release special.'

Disney UK doesn't do special anymore. Bare minimum is what they are best at.

Yeah I know. In America they get slipcases all year round, but ours are limited edition only. I pre-ordered Frozen 3D expecting to get the slipcase with it, but it was not included. It cost me £18. Then I went on ebay and managed to pick up a slipcase, which cost me a further £10, so overall I paid £28. We should get what the US get.

Disney classics are always pretty pricey in the UK, even though we always get a lot less than the US does. Best you can hope for is a Zavvi steelbook! (which i'm not into but i know many are)

I hate steelbooks. They're not even books, they are steelboxes.

I think it's pretty much a given that that's all it's going to be. It'll probably just be the first disc from the Platinum Edition if that.
