Not sure how this one slipped under my radar given how much I love 500 Days of Summer and how hyped I was to watch The Spectacular Now on Blu-ray. Came across this after watching and then reading about The Spectacular Now. I'm going to do the same as I did with The Spectacular Now and not watch any trailers.

Amazing, deep book. From the writers of (500) Days of Summer & The Spectacular Now, this story is in good hands. I think this film will surprise a lot of people unaware of the books existence or that haven't read it (ala Perks of Being a Wallflower).

I totally agree. Just finished the book. AMAZING. So beautiful. I cried like a baby but it totally feels like it earns your tears. It's really well-written.

I've never read the book but this is starting to look like stupid hipster bullshit. I buy cigarettes but I don't smoke them. It's a "metaphor"

The book was really mediocre in my opinion. I read it a few weeks before they started shooting since everyone praised it for being raw and heartbreaking, but it was just so pretentious and corny. I was cringing at the writing nearly the whole time.
The characters were hard to get into especially Hazel and Gus. Hazel was so whiny and Gus was just plain out pretentious, evident in the "metaphor" clip. If John Green hadn't written the book and someone else did, I'm sure I would've liked it more.

Total opposite for me. Instantly adored the characters and thought the writing was terrific.

13. The Fault in our Stars (June 6): As usual, there's not a ton of compelling content for women this Summer. One exception to that is The Fault in Our Stars, which is a romantic drama based off the popular John Green novel. The trailer has over 15 million views on YouTube—in line with most would-be blockbusters—and star Shailene Woodley is coming off a break-out role in Divergent. Look for this to be a solid hit as well. (Domestic: $120 million, Foreign: $55 million)

REALLY?!?!? I honestly doubt it's going to get half of that.

Not to mention a break-out non-role in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Maybe $100 million for it's entire run. Maybe. There does seem to be a lot of hype about it, but I doubt that will translate into boxoffice numbers. I do see it all over tumblr though.

You guys are being too hard on the film, based on a 50 second clip. That's how the character was in the book, chock full of pretentiousness. The guy is 17 and has like 1.4 legs after a cancer battle, give him a break. I'm looking forward to the film. I hope it's a good adaptation. Although I'm not sure about Dafoe as Peter Van Houten. Great actor, just not who I had in mind.

Sorry but the screenwriters have their work cut out for them to make this into a quality film given what they have to work with. I know they wrote The Spectacular Now, but that was a much better book so all they really had to do there was compress it into 90 minutes(and tack on a more upbeat ending).

After re-watching the trailer, I'm going to guess
[Show spoiler]the final shot of Shailene Woodley laying on the ground looking up talking to herself is the final shot in the movie? Just like they ruined The Spectacular Now ending in that trailer

Well if you can't handle teenagers talking intelligently and being wise beyond their years then this definitely wouldn't be for you. I don't think the writers have their work cut out for them at all as I thought the writing in the book was great. They don't have to change much of anything. Wouldn't want them to dumb it down. I don't care if a lot of teenagers talk like this or not. It was a pleasure being in the company of these characters and I can't wait to see them brought to life on film.
