Not sure how I feel about the cover, but I will say it is about time this is coming to blu-ray. Unfortunately Criterion has wasted a potential blu ray release of quality past DVD titles (Time Bandits, Short Cuts, The Long Good Friday, Do The Right Thing) on a Big Chill release.

There's a VERY solid Time Bandits release by Arrow which I can play since my Blu-ray drive uses the program AnyDVD HD which removes ALL region encodes. Yeah, it still misses out on some extras but more than makes up for them.

This and The Big Chill are two more Criterions I'm procrastinating purchasing and I seem to ALWAYS miss out on the Criterion sales it seems.
I wonder which extras Criterion will have compared to the German re-release and that one UK release.

July and November.

Every year.

I'm excited for this release. Been looking forward to it for a long time, and not only does it occur during the sale, it's also just in time for my birthday.

Criterion no longer have the rights to Time Bandits or Long Good Friday. There is a fantastic UK release of the former. The Universal BD of Do the Right Thing includes all of the Criterion extras.

Ha, I knew nothing about the release other than it being from Universal, but I still almost added 'but being a Universal disc, you'd better check out a few reviews first'. It's amazing how consistently they bungle their transfers in one way or another (and often in one way and another).

Is it this the same remaster that was recently used for the DE release? If it is there's no reason for me to double dip.

It does say 'New, restored 2K digital film transfer, supervised by director David Cronenberg'.

idk man, that's a lot of work just to save $9. I'll probably go the Tyler, they have one there and it's less than 30min away, but even that's kinda silly because of gas. Maybe I'll make a day of it, invite my cousin to come along and we can hang out and goof around in another town.

Not by a long shot. It's bizarre, but I've seen a thousand covers worse than this. I think it's rather interesting, though very odd.

I'm a little disappointed with the bonus features, save for Cronenberg's first film. Still, I'll take what I get from this set.

Then I find it hard to believe that it will beat the DE transfer as it AVC at just over 32 Mbps. We will just have to wait and see.

Anyone know if the international releases were supervised by Cronenberg?

As has been posted many times in many threads, nagysaudio is never right about anything. He is, as usual, simply talking out of his rear end. (I have him on ignore - doesn't everyone? - so I'm usually spared his gibberish, but in this case you quoted him, hence my response.) As I already posted in response to your question, and has already been detailed in the first post of this thread, the Criterion release is advertised as 'New, restored 2K digital film transfer, supervised by director David Cronenberg'. They would not refer to it as such if it were not the case. Nevertheless, I did send an email off to Mulvaney (I also asked if Stereo would be 1080p) and will post his response here, if any arrives.

Most frightening sci-fi movie ever been.
I love it to the nth degree.
