Until then, I’ll relate to you what the colorists who’ve played with the plug-in think…as well as a couple color scientists in Hollywood Quote:
The Dolby Vision color grading plug-in is rather nifty ![]() For home deliverables, one just does a trim pass as you would for DCI P3 -> Rec. 709 home deliverables…. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...p3#post8524797 As an update, the ITU is not only considering Dolby Vision as an HDR solution; but also, proposals from Technicolor, Philips and the BBC. On the studio side - It will require changing the entire content preparation workflow. It must be supported from image acquisition…then through editing and color grading post houses including support in other brand monitors (not just the prototype 30” Sony OLED announcement that Richard previously linked but, other brands as well). $ On the consumer display manufacturer side – The display device must support BT.2020 coloritmetry, and those cases in which it does not, gamut mapping must be considered. Given the limited processing power at the reception side, it is unclear how this can be optimally solved (e.g. perceptual gamut mapping vs. clipping to Rec. 709 range vs. leaving interpretation of color data to the legacy televisions themselves). |

I brought attention to the 75 film print thing in the P.S. on the last page because this may be one of theater-going cinephiles’ last opportunities to see a feature motion picture produced and exhibited thee old fashioned way.
Meaning Transcendence was shot on film, finished photochemically (it did not go through a digital intermediate color grading pipeline, although a 4K digital master was ultimately produced) and a handful of release prints are being made available. So, this provides road trip bait for celluloid junkies and those interested in evaluating for themselves (without Director or D.P. hype) some recent evidence (or, lack thereof) of the purported superiority of end-to-end celluloid vs. digital. |

Which reminds me, as a F/U to this past post…. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ri#post9023437 since I doubt any roving reporter-types covering NAB gained access to such inside information, the Arri camera is not a rumor…it does exist as a working device. At the current time; however, ARRI won’t sell the 65mm 6k camera…note emphasis on “sell”. Red fanboys can now breathe a sigh of relief. |

I just got around to watching Liverpool vs. Man City last night. The Arsenal match is scheduled for my viewing pleasure (or lack thereof) tonight or possibly Thursday night. I’ll have to get back to you on that.
I’ll tell you one thing though, we shouldn’t have even placed ourselves in this position with the lead we had at the beginning of the season. The only redeeming grace I see at this point is that we have an easier schedule left compared to that of Everton. As an aside, last night NBC Nightly News did a brief segment on the Hillsborough anniversary (http://www.miamiherald.com/2014/04/1...lsborough.html |

I'm a long way off purchasing a 4K TV, as long as my Sony FHD TV keeps going (knock wood).
I have a 32" Sony, thinking about going up to 42" max. At that 32" size, the difference between FHD and 4K is negligible. Very happy with the 1080p picture that I get with my PS3, PS4 or U.S. BD Sony BR player running. My Sony is a 710 model, and although 3-4 years old, it looks as good as the new 800 series. In short, 1080p & Blu-Ray will do me. |
