After reading some of the reviews on Indy 4, I had the distinct impression that some sillyness should be restrained here and there. (This thread isn't about Indy 4.) It got me thinking about the changing tide of late twards more realistic and Darker movies as a dominating aspect and preference in films. I.e. the Dark Knight, 30 days of Night and so on.
So the question is this: Are darker films the wave of the future and do you like Darker Films in general? |

I hope so and yes. Weird you ask this, because a friend and I were throwing around ideas for a movie and we kept coming up with very dark and troubling situations. Both of us have led extremely "normal" lives with lots of love and attention from Mommy and Daddy, but we still gravitate towards dark music, movies, books and so on. We thought it was kinda funny once we realized it.

I remember one of the gripes over Batman Begins was that it was dark. But to me it was realistic. And that is probably the biggest reason I liked it. 30DoN was dark because it was a graphic novel adaptation. BTW, it was probably, not so much realistic, the most sensical vampire movie I've ever seen. If more of these are going to be made, I've definitely got no problem with it.

I disagree.
30 days of night is a vampire movie, if a vampire movie isn't dark, then obviously the director/writer/actors are doing something wrong. Likewise with Batman, people got spoiled coming home from school catching the light fluffy "kapow" batman and a dark version of batman scares people. Let me put it like this, how dark is True Lies which is an action movie, not very dark at all IMO. Logan |

its a sign of the times. We live in dark and uncertain times, I think it only stands to reason that movies would be darker. I think things in the world were much better when I was a kid in the 80's
I do like darker films better to be honest. |
