Carrie Fisher should at least lose one pound a day.

Talking about Star Wars just reminded me of the "noooooo" at the end of jedi. Im not dreaming. Why couldnt he leave the most emotional part of the damn film alone?

Same reason as why he added a CGI rock infront of R2 in A New Hope, coated AOTC in a horrid teal tint and removed all the grain from TPM...because he can.

And yes, this is PROPER amateur level shit because surely Lucasfilm, the makers of the ****ing movie, would have access to the separate DME audio tracks so that they could re-order the scenes and remix the audio without fudging the music? Er......nope.

AOTC is the biggest bodge-job of the Star Wars movies, and that reputation carried over even into the Blu-ray release.
Lucas also did this to TESB SE, when he inserted the "bring me my shuttle" sequence. That whole sequence has a choppy, cut and paste feel to it, including the music. It amazed me that Lucas let these poor edits exist, considering the tools and resources he had at disposal and how he is, or should I say was, supposedly one of the better editors in the industry.

Any background shots will have the buildings removed, but this does make me think of an interesting possibility.

What if in Episode 7 we see a prosperous thriving Tatooine that literally rose up in the 30 years between episodes 6&7? Similar to the way Dubai rose up so fast. That could be pretty cool. We'd get to see a familiar planet, but in a new way.

Kind of interesting idea, but I'm not sure I'd want to see that. I mean, I don't expect every planet we revisit to look exactly the same as in previous movies, I'd like to see things look somewhat different on Coruscant, Naboo and wherever else. But for me Tatooine's appeal was always in how relatively sparsely populated it is, with crime and poverty everywhere. The whole thing just looks and feels dirty, and I hope it remains so.

It would be kinda interesting though if we got to see the ruins of Jabba's palace. Since Leia killed Jabba the Hutt in VI, it could mean the end of the Hutt rule on Tatoonie. The crime rate could go down, but not completely.

Yeah, that's something I've thought about, what happened after Jabba died? Did someone else just claim his palace or is it abandoned now? I feel like the Hutt rule probably didn't end with his death, there's more of them and even if Jabba was the most powerful one (I have no idea if he was), that spot would just go to someone else now that he's out of the way. There's probably lots of rivalry and dirty fighting between them to begin with, they're gangsters after all.

I wonder if we'll see any other Hutts in the new trilogy? Actually, I wonder what relevance Tatooine will have to the story in general.

I'd like to see a remnant of the Empire holding on and trying to make a comeback. It would be hard to believe that the whole Empire just gave up and collapsed after Jedi. Maybe if there were some Generals or other higher ranking officials gathering what's left for some kind of last effort. The Empire was pretty much everywhere at one point.
I'm ok with a new enemy and story arc, but I'd like to see the Empire in the picture somehow.

I agree, I feel it'd be logical to have some remains of the Empire still lingering. It always felt a bit odd and naive how ROTJ did it, the two highest ranking leaders die and it's implied the whole Empire falls as a result. But in real life you can't destroy a government or any kind of larger organization by just killing the top leader, it's a lot bigger and more complex than that. While there was obviously a lot of people who disagreed with it, at the same time many must have supported Palpatine's way of ruling, otherwise it would have ended a lot sooner. And these would long for the old times, if only because they wanted the power again.

It could also be interesting because the Empire and Rebel Alliance would have switched places. Now Luke, Leia, Han and the rest have started up a new republic, while the remnants of the Empire would be the small resistance force. It'll be most interesting to see who/what the villains are, what their goals are and so on.

Especially when they say in Star Wars how the regional heads will maintain control - each area has their own mini emperor while Vader and the Emperor deal with the bigger picture. I always thought that the ending was more that the evil force controlling everything was gone so now others will start to openly fight and overthrow the people controlling their area - it is the start of the overthrow, not the end. That's going to be the biggest issue here - how much of it makes sense and how much of it is carry over from Jedi. When you were ending it on Jedi, you could say that they overthrew the empire and that was that because that was where you were ending the story. Now that isn't the end so you need to make some sense of it. My worry is that if they got rid of the original writer because he was going too far away from what they wanted and JJ is intent on bringing back as many of the original stars and ideas as he seems to be, are we going to end up with a case where we are looking at the movie and going "but that makes no sense".

In these cases (government overthrown by "the people"), things generally turn to a military control waiting for things to stabilize, and regional outposts most likely depend on the chain of command.

The problem with ROTJ (in universe) is just how many high ranking officials must have simultaneously died at the battle of Endor. The main (not the only one, yes, but most certainly the most important) command battleship (Executor) was destroyed during the battle, along with the Death Star.

So in order of the chain of command, I imagine the top 3 if not more have been killed then (Emperor /Vader/ Admiral Piett). Even though I do not think any "Grand Moffs" were still active after Tarkin (he was apparently reporting directly to the Emperor and not "obviously" under Vader), it is very likely that many "Grand Admirals" were still active, at least overseeing regions of space on board of Super Star Destroyers.

Imo the Rebel alliance's first objective was probably to re-establish the Senate on Coruscant (though imo also a mistake to go back to the old ways that allowed the old thing to become corrupt as could be) to inititate a return to democracy. With this, regional (as in star system wide) pockets of Imperial resistance (turned local warlords) was very probable, but we are 30 years later.
So it all depends if most of the existing "legal" army willingly turned all their forces to the new Republic or if they tried to regroup with a powerful local Grand Admiral (which was the line chosen for the Thrawn trilogy I believe).

Disclaimer: I have never read any of the "extended universe" books, so my extrapolations are based on the movies alone.

That's basically where I got my idea from. It wouldn't be plausible for the entire fleet to have been destroyed at Endor also keeping in mind that there must be a constant presence throughout the galaxy to retain control.
I'd like to see these generals or ship captains mount their own rebellion against the new Republic. Maybe they have to make an alliance with a new threat and that introduces a new protagonist. Either way, I'd like to see the Empire put up a more of a fight before they go down.
