Just watched the first hour of The Lone Ranger, it's pretty gruesome stuff. One minute it's silly comedy the next the baddie is cutting the heart out of an injured man. I'm surprised that there hasn't been a back-lash against it by parents who took their kids to see it.

Of course I always get the blame when a film is too unpleasant so I'll watch the rest of the film on my lonesome ...

I thought the same thing when I saw it a few months back. Especially
[Show spoiler]the horse taking a dump on that guy, then literally ten seconds later we're seeing these horrible nightmarish visions.

It is a strange mix of humour and quite dark stuff but it only seems strange I guess because it's in such a huge, expensive movie.

For the record I think this is a fantastic film and my 2nd favourite from last year, I love everything about it really. The train finale is my favourite sequence from last year easily, just great, incredible action.

I was hoping for a Mirror, Mirror style Western as it stars Arnie Hammer! I expected the look as it's Gore Verbinski but the tone was a surprise. There seems to be a tendency to push the gross-factor in fantasy Westerns like the Wild Wild West, Cowboys & Aliens, Jonah Hex et cetra (I'm thinking of another film which I can't remember the title of).

I might give it another shot this weekend.
