I just got back from the store with a new audio receiver. This has HDMI. My old one didn't. I have two cables. So I run one down from the TV to the PS3 and the other from the PS3 to the receiver?

No depends on your reciever but usually the are hdmi pass thru. So Ps3 to reciever then reciever to tv.

I did mean RX sorry. Ok but I only have 2 cables and a lot of things to hook into. TV, PS3, receiver, Cable Box. I'm fine if the cable box is component. Let me try the digital optical. Do I need standard AV cables running anywhere? And how do I know what I have to turn on on the receiver to find that sound?
EDIT: It worked on optical! Now I have a Yamaha RX-V663. How do I tell it that on the DTV/CBL that it's not PCM? Last edited by obriensg1; 05-25-2008 at 09:31 PM. Reason: Adding details |

Congratulations and welcome to the Mighy Yamaha Army!!!
It's a pleasure to have you aboard son. Yamahas are terribly EASY to hook up and will do all the work for you. Just take a breathe and pay attention to the back panel. Think about what you need and the inputs will be there. Your digital cable box should also have an HDMI out. If not use the componant (Red Green Blue) for video and Optical (toslink) for audio. If it does have an HDMI out, go to MONOPRICE.COM and and get another cable. Good luck and enjoy man. I just got the RX-V1800 and it is completely ssssick in every way. Rock!! ps - pm me if you need anything BLEED YAMAHA |

if youre running Component from your DVR, just connect it directly to the TV and use an optical cable to the Receiver. Then on the Receiver you can configure one of the Inputs to use optical audio. (if youre not sure what I mean just ask)
also, you can run the standard red/white audio cable from the DVR to the TV, that way you can just turn on the TV without having to turn on the receiver to hear sound. |

It's at loud as it will get that way (cable box setup) but I don't want to have to crank volume up to 20 for decent sound on TV networks so I want to know if there is a setting on my receiver I can change. Twister kicks ass though. I played it as my tester while I replugged in all my speakers
