Well , it is supposed to be the best available but there are always exceptions..and I see blu ray users get defensive about gripes with that format as well... so it works both ways. Either format is fine for me as long as the film is available Ill take it (except maybe in the case of a truly bad print of something Alpha video esque) I don't see DVDs going away at all.. |

As for the arguing, can't we all just forget it? we're all horror fans and if someone wants to ask for "Friday the 13th part 2" uncut from scream they are not harming anyone. This thread is for anyone interested in horror not just those who , myself included, may have more knowledge than average. Peace everyone ![]() |

You know you're post just reminded me of someething i've always thought, back in the day so many movies that are considered horror classics we're slagged off by fango, gorezone, shivers etc by both reviewers and people writing in yet now the same lot love them. Nostalgia i suppose.

Why would anyone choose DVD over Blu if both are availible. Maybe I'm missing something. ![]() |

I think the biggest issue is that so many films will not become available on blu-ray due to poor picture elements, legal limbo, or perceived lack of demand so horror fans have to "tolerate" standard definition and enjoy the content over picture quality. |

More often, it has something to do with film alterations. Color timing changes, inferior cuts, altered soundtrack, altered aspect ratios, etc. The Tourist Trap Blu-Ray contains an 85 minute cut of the film that omits certain scenes and changes the placement of others, but does not include the original 90 minute theatrical cut that was on the DVD. Jason Goes to Hell was released in the Friday the 13th boxset, but omitted the preferable director's cut with the extra gore that was included on the DVD. Halloween dropped the original mono soundtrack and the debate over it's color timing is endless. In many cases, the the Blu-Ray has omitted some, or even all, of the extras that were included on the DVD. This doesn't necessarily affect those that just want the film in it's best presentation, but it does present a bit of a quandary for those that place high value on extras. |

Like I said, Blu is better than DVD by default, just by the nature of being high resolution. If you have a small tv, then you won't notice the difference. But there is a difference. I don't think it's a matter of opinion, it is a fact. I agree that there are so many movies not on Blu, that should be. I've listed a few of my favorites in prior posts. Sorry for the brief derailment. ![]() Last edited by SendMoreParamedics; 04-23-2014 at 06:27 PM. |

If there's a title I want and it's not available on blu-ray, or doesn't look like it'll ever be available on blu-ray, I have no issues getting the DVD as long as it's of good quality and is not a non-anamorphic transfer. I finally found a copy of the OOP DVD of He Knows You're Alone the other day, and since it's with Warner, I doubt it'll be heading to blu-ray any time soon. If it does get a re-release on DVD, I imagine that it may be released through the Warner Archive Collection on a DVD-R, like Nightbreed and Fire in the Sky were rereleased under.
I would also imagine that the DVD of something like Leatherface: TCM 3 would be the best release. With Warner's new "no unrated cut" policy, if Leatherface were to get a blu-ray release, it will probably be the R-rated theatrical cut, and then the DVD would be the better version. |

I hope the Producer's Cut gets released on Blu. There is a 35mm print in existance. I prefer the Theatrical Cut, but would like to see an HD version of the P-cut. |
