Default Under the Skin (2013)

Under the Skin Blu-ray

Quote:
A voluptuous woman of unknown origin (Scarlett Johansson) combs the highways in search of isolated or forsaken men, luring a succession of lost souls into an otherworldly lair. They are seduced, stripped of their humanity, and never heard from again. Based on the novel by Michel Faber, Under the Skin examines human experience from the perspective of an unforgettable heroine who grows too comfortable in her borrowed skin, until she is abducted into humanity with devastating results.

Under the Skin is my favorite film of 2014 so far, and it's the best science fiction movie that I've seen in recent memory. The movie really does look as though it were not filmed by humans.

I've seen it twice in the theater now, and it was even better the second time.

I'm all over this Blu-ray.

Excellent! Day 1 buy for me. I loved this film. Here's to hoping Birth gets a release sometime soon.

F*** Yeah.

Didn't see it but really, really wanted to, as it looked awesome. Kinda have high expectations going into it and hopefully it lives up to it. Definitely a Day One blind buy for me.. A24 is awesome.

Does not live up to the hype. Starts off well, then gets repetitive and slow and confusing. I guess the book explains more about what's going on. It was OK, IMO. Nice to see Scarlett not only naked but trying something different. I guess the fact that there were only 5 of us (all male) in the theater tells you something.

Overrated flick. Works for the first half but falters in the second.

Definitely underrated film! One of the only CD soundtracks I've bought for its score.

Mica Levi's music score for Under the Skin is pretty amazing. Director Jonathan Glazer's past experience with music videos is a definite asset, and it's fun to see the music and visuals play off of one another. I love watching this film for the same reason that I love watching the end credits of Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver, in that the interplay of music and visuals is mesmerizing.

Under the Skin draws a lot of comparisons to the works of Stanley Kubrick and Andrei Tarkovsky, and those influences are apparent, but I was personally reminded even more of Philip Kaufman's brilliant 1978 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, because both movies are blessed with unhurried pacing and uncanny camera perspectives.

I read the Michel Faber novel a month before seeing this film, and I prefer the film, because it eschews Faber's heavy-handed didactic narrative for something more hauntingly ethereal.

Last week, I ordered and watched Glazer's Sexy Beast at long last, because I wanted to see some earlier work by the director. I loved that film, although Under the Skin is still my favorite of the two. I never gave much thought to Birth when it was released a decade ago, but I'd really like to see it now.

What I really love about Under the Skin is that it does not take any wrong steps, and it never drops the ball. So many movies have a promising premise at the beginning, but falter and wither away in the final half. Under the Skin starts off strong, and it just keeps getting better.

This is one of the greatest sci-fi films ever made. Stone cold masterpiece, and that steelbook looks incredible Also second (or third or fourth ) that Birth needs a Blu-ray release desperately.

This is on the Zavvi page, though: Availability: Sold out. :/

Is there any chance of that becoming a store exclusive here in the states. I could kinda see Target having that as an exclusive.
