this year? no.

in the past titles have been announced in July/Aug/Sept, which was 8-10 months before release. (Phantom Menace was the latest, with September 25)
With Episode VII not being released until December, I would not expect a title announcement until at least the start of the new year

Talking about titles reminds me of when TPM came out and how I tended to refer to it solely as "Episode I". Probably having to with how prominently the episode number was used in the promotional title graphic, whereas the older films had just been called Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi.

Am I the only one that isn't really phased by the throwing out of the EU? I mean, I have a bookshelf with dozens of Star Wars books. Half the stuff in them, I doubt they'd bring up in the films anyways! The Han Solo trilogy, Truce at Bakara, all kinds of stuff. Especially the Before Yavin stuff. To me it'll still be there whether the movie references it or not. It's not like the movies reference the animated Clone Wars series. To the films, Mauls survival means just as much as boba Fetts. Meaning: none. It's just cool to know.

im not phased at all - I agree with you. The books as well as the cartoons are just bonus curiosities, much better additions to the OT than the prequels.

Well, I'm not phased in the sense that I'm just considering the new films to be an "alternate" storyline. The EU books, namely the Thrawn Trilogy, Shadows of the Empire and such, are from a time when Star Wars was The Star Wars Trilogy.

Honestly, I feel the same way towards the prequels. Between the continuity issues, the vastly different visual style, etc., they've never existed on the same plane as the original films for me.

But the books succeeded for me in feeling like the original films and evoke a sense of being part of that history and texture of the trilogy. So for me, they'll always be intrinsically linked to the story I grew up with.

If you like it and it doesn't contradict something in the films then it can be canon to you if you want. I don't see how the events in Shadows of the Empire would be affected by the new trilogy.

no, because they aren't "throwing it out". It was NEVER part of the official story. It was more like... authorized fan fiction.

"The Authorized Continuation of the Star Wars Saga...."

So says my paperback edition of Heir to the Empire.

Honestly, though, it's pointless debating this. What is or is not canon in Star Wars is so unbelievably open to debate it's not even funny. Even in the original films, i.e. is Han a cold blooded killer, or the guy who kills only in self defense?

For me, the only film level canon is what's in the original trilogy (aka the story I grew up with for years). After that it's up to me (the EU comes next - also part of my childhood). I'm looking forward to the new movies, but they're more an alternate story as far as I'm concerned.

My philosophy comes from years of being a Highlander fan. You think you guys can rely on basing canon off of what's in the films? Not every franchise has that luxury.

Unfortunately 90% of the EU is better than the entire prequel trilogy put together

Well, they haven't said they are throwing out the EU completely. They still might use ideas or names from it.

Sort of like how Heir to the Empire named Coruscant.

Close but that's not where I was going, that list below suggest there's sizable number of folks who can do what Andy does and we are talking about "ACTORS". I am not intimating he is not good at what he does because he is, it just appears he's offered the premium roles as if there no other actors capable of pulling off what he does.

So you're suggesting Andy Serkis isn't an actor but seth MacFarlane is...?

The only other person on that list worth considering is Bill Nighy, who was excellent in POTC.

I can name you several actors that have done mo-cap for video games that are wonderful actors. Plenty of people can act in mo-cap. Andy just happens to be a phenomenal actor that deserves his roles!

That's what I've always thought of the EU as well. Nice to know it's not going to be immortalized in cinema.
