Unhappy I have the same issue!
I have a Pioneer Elite VSX-92TXH receiver (not Denon) but the same thing happens whenever I play a Blu-ray movie either through my PS3 or Panasonic player.

I sincerely think it is an HDMI handshake problem, but whether it is the fault of the receiver or cables, I don't know.

I think that HDMI is the most problematic connection ever invented. I haven't yet seen the benefit for the consumer -- just hassles!
