Default Ben Affleck Banned From Blackjack Casino, For Winning Too Much Money

Hand it to Las Vegas Casinos. They will go out of their way to ensure that you do not win any money. Just ask Ben Affleck. He was banned from the Blackjack tables when security "suspected" that he was card counting. It gets better, their suspicions were just that, suspicions, because Ben was winning too much money.

Who would have thought that actually winning money could label you a cheat at a Casino. Since it was Ben Affleck, they wouldn't ban him from the Casino, because of his star power, but merely just from the Blackjack tables.

http://www.mlive.com/news/detroit/in..._river_default

You gotta love it. Any regular person would be ejected from the Casino but her,e they couldn't prove that he was cheating, only that he was winning too much money. Uh, here's a special note to Casino owners, if you're wealthy, you're going to win. That's the nature of the game. To suspect that someone is cheating because they are winning too much ... LOLS

This is like banning seven-footers from the NBA.

And this warranted its own thread? What's next? Affleck bought a cat?

Well, this is the Hollywood and Celebrities forum. So I would say that Ben Affleck being banned from a Casino for winning too much money is warranted of it's own thread. It is major celebrity information or news (which is precisely what this forum is for).

Any celebrity adopting a pet, OTOH, would not warrant it's own thread because that is not even newsworthy at all let alone major celebrity information or news. Of course, comparing a celebrity adopting a pet with a celebrity being banned from a casino for any reason is an apples to oranges comparison.

It wasn't meant to be a serious topic, it's just absurd that someone would get banned from a Casino for winning too much money. Everyone goes to a Casino to win money, otherwise, what's the point. The fact is, that this going to hit Las Vegas like a PR Thunderstorm ...

It hilarious because the Las Vegas Casino ban hit one of the best director/producers in Hollywood and this has just started to hit the national media. I hate to be security officer at the Casino who started this muck-up because someone is gonna get fired over this.

A) This is what casinos do
B) They have more $ than God...it will not effect them
C) No one will care and will still go to Vegas

Yeah... that's what I was thinking. Casinos ban people all the time for winning too much.

Actually, that's not the first reaction.

The first reaction is a lot like the TV show a while back... they will watch someone to try and see if he is cheating. IF they think he is cheating they will try and find out how, so that they can prevent others.

IF they don't think he is cheating, they will comp a room and other stuff to try and get him to stay in the hotel longer and hopefully the tide turns and he starts to lose.

Last resort is banning... but they will do it.

Ben Affleck isn't going to get a room comp, though, because he is rich and famous... and if he is winning money, they have no incentive to let him stay on a roll.

That may be but the Casino is taking a huge risk because Ben Affleck just put a public spin to this new practice of banning gamblers from casinos just simply for winning. The same has happened to the political landscape in this country not to mention the NSA spying.

The minute they banned Ben Affleck from the blackjack tables they put the issue into public view and gamblers aren't likely to play in a casino where they will be banned from playing simply for winning.

I think that casino security overreacted in this manner and that the resulting backlash sure to come is going to open everyone's eyes to the casino economy. This is going to be very interesting to see how this plays out in the public.

Dude, this is nothing new. Its been going on since day one. Regular gamblers will not "boycott" this casino. They are already well aware.

"Millionaire Ben Affleck couldn't make even more millions" will not garner much sympathy from the general public, and even if it did with a handful of fanboys, so what? "Joe Public from Idaho isn't coming to our casino to spent a grand."

It will not make or break them.

You have to be pranking us or something...

This isn't new. It's as old as casinos are! The first casino banned people that won too much.

The average person knows this too... I mean, at least the average person that might go visit a casino in the first place.

It isn't anything new... it has happened many times, and it will happen again... and people will continue to show up and gamble.

I don't think they can ever "prove" someone is counting cards if it's denied. Good for him

He was up around 1 million when they banned him. Besides from what I understand counting cards is not that hard if you know the Rolodex and pay attention to whats been played. What he did was also not illegal, the casinos just don't like it when you win.

From what I understand you start at a number for every 2-5 in the deck you subtract 1, 6-9 you add 0, for every 10-A you add 1, the higher the number the more likely your chances of hitting 21 its just basic math.

yup, aint' illegal and in all honesty casinos need to be VERY strictly regulated on this so they CAN'T pull this crap. they get pissy when you beat them at their own game and try to ban everyone who might win... casinos are basically mafia run con joints who use muscle to push out anyone who wins at their own game.

People get banned from Amazon for returning too much... people get banned for returning too much at Walmart and Best Buy... and casinos ban people for winning too much.

People that are bad for business are people you don't actually have to do business with, legally.

Are they banned from shopping or just returning? Or both?

Amazon would be harder to ban you from returning to "browse" since it is online... but I have heard of people being banned from stores or other places in general, not just a ban from making purchases.

It isn't illegal to buy something, and if the store has a return policy it isn't illegal to return it... but if you just go in and out and buy stuff and return stuff and they notice you doing it and recognize you... at some point they will ban you because you are causing them trouble and they are losing money processing you every time.

Same for casinos... if you aren't cheating, but are just winning a lot... and you keep winning... at some point many casinos will ban you. IF you win enough, you might even find yourself banned from other casinos as those people talk and might share your info to warn other casinos if they see you coming.
