Anyway, I want more Béla Tarr, and quite frankly, I don't care who it comes from.
Turin Horse takes a lot of patience to watch, but it inspired me to eat more boiled potatoes recently. ;-)

I only really enjoyed The Darjeeling Limited because of its pretty visuals. The story was okay, but most Wes Anderson things do nothing for me.

I haven't seen The Royal Tenenbaums since the DVD Criterion came out a long, long time ago, but I would have to vouch that it's my first or second favorite (if that exists) Wes Anderson film next to Fantastic Mr. Fox.

JW, bring back Orson Welles

Re: The Turin Horse. If I remember correctly, the runtime listed on the back of the case is incorrect by ten or twenty minutes.

Royal Tenenbaums is number one for me too. Each of Anderson's first three films have a strong emotional core, so I don't think I'll ever tire of them.

The Swimmer is a terrific movie, and the Blu-ray looks stunning. Burt Lancaster should have won every award in the book that year.

I watched Ace in the Hole earlier this evening, but I want to finish all of the supplements before I write my thoughts. I've seen the movie a few times by way of my old DVD, but I had never taken the time to enjoy the commentary. The video and audio are both near-perfect, though. This is a huge improvement over the DVD.

The Swimmer is a blind buy, and I'm really looking forward to it. Ace in the Hole we saw maybe two or three years ago. Very excited to see it again.

Just to put some sort of order to my ranking to this discussion, here's mine (more or less).

The Royal Tenenbaums (2001)
Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009)
The Darjeeling Limited (2007)
Bottle Rocket (1996)
Rushmore (1998)
The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)
The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou (2004)
Moonrise Kingdom (2012)

Move the bottom three to the top in reverse order and you have mine.

Not that much, certainly. The IMDb says it's 146 minutes (2:26). The BD case says it's 143 minutes (2:23). The actual time on the disc is 145 minutes (2:34:40 to be exact).

I have noted some reviews that claim it's 154 minutes, but most stick to the 146-minute run-time. When I streamed it on Netflix a few months ago, it was in the 143-146 range.

Ill double check when I get home, but I am positive it was around 154 minutes...so eleven minutes difference.

umm.....

I just ordered Zatoichi Boxset (Bluray) for £5 on Amazon. O_o

Advertised as Like New and doesn't say anything is wrong with it... O_o has to be something wrong with it lol....

Ugh some Amazons elders annoy me, filed a claim against them as they sent and item which arrived damaged and they would't help - they go on to tell me its impossible for an item to arrive damaged and by law it won't??? ughh...??

Hopefully the seller isn't dying and just giving away a steal like that.

Your Scarlett Johansson avatar is awesome enough to keep indefinitely.
A few weeks back, when I was admonished for discussing Under the Skin here in the thread, I briefly considered changing mine to an image of Scarlett from that movie, just as a show of solidarity. I like my current avatar too darn much, though.

Speaking of fat Welles, you could always go with the below image for an avatar, since the new Universal Blu-ray of Touch of Evil is so marvelous. Seeing the movie with the proper black levels on a transfer really makes a difference.

Glad to hear that the blu ray is an improvement. I have the DVD and was underwhelmed with the PQ, even for a DVD. I cancelled my pre-order at the last moment because 1. I wanted to wait for the reviews to come in to see if it was worth the upgrade, and 2: I'm will to wait for a 1/2 price sale.

Looking forward to your thoughts on Ace. It's still a great film, but not quite the masterpiece I remembered from when I first saw it years ago.
