You just need to buy 3 of the 4 Sony blu-rays to make the minimum of $35 for free shipping on Amazon. However if you're only going to buy 1, then yes it would be better offline.

Should I only get 3 out of the 4? Is one worse than the others?

I'd go with all 4. I was just pointing out that getting $35 on Amazon doesn't take much I ordered all 4 of them, I just need to wait for them to ship. I was going to buy 2 of them at Wal-Mart, but they didn't have any in stock. And when I saw I needed to buy at least 3 to get free shipping, I decided to just go all-in and buy the 4.

Actually, Barnes & Noble on-line is cheaper than Amazon at $11.99 each (almost $1 lower). Same free shipping deal, etc. Ordered a little over a week ago and already received all 4 of them.

But, they are backordered on the 3 Kraken titles (which they also have the lowest prices at $8.99 each, which is a huge $4 cheaper per release than Amazon!)

I picked up the Destroyah/Megaguirus tonight at Walmart for 12.96. I wanted to get all 4 double features, but could only get one until next week. At first when I looked on the shelf, they had two slots for these, and Destroyah/Megaguirus set wasn't there, but they just mixed the four different sets into two slots. They probably didn't notice that they were different. I am hoping for a little sale come Sunday to promote the new Godzilla flick. Would be nice if they fall to 9.96, but 12.96 is still a great deal though.

Right Stuf (rightstuf.com) is cheaper than Amazon for the 3 Kraken releases and ships really fast.

We should try and get amazon to price match it.

Thanks. Even paying $5.49 in shipping, it's cheaper than going with Amazon (especially since they charge tax). It's also total BS that Amazon charges tax in NY, since there are no warehouses here. The closest one is in Edison, NJ. RightStuf doesn't charge tax outside Iowa, like it should be

2 of the 3 titles are listed as "more arriving soon" but I ordered them anyway. Now I just need for them to come in stock.

Another win for the blu-ray format. Or not.
I have seen those hd versions. They do not look very good, and are frequently derided for their shoddy, artificial quality. Earlier in this thread someone posted that version of destroyah against the new blurays- it had really funky coloring and basically the new disc stomps all over it. These versions are not amazing but they certainly aren't worse than these hd versions you heard about.

I just watched this disc of king ghidorah, having seen the dubbed version about 20 times, but only having seen it in Japanese once. On the issue of subtitles, what it looked like to me was that they did dubtitles and then had someone come in and change any lines that were notably different in meaning. Thus, many scenes are subbed with identical phrasing to the English track, but others are very different and more accurate. So, it seems that on this movie at least they did make an effort.

I ended up getting all 4 sets. Looking forward to some chessy Godzilla goodness.

Same here, but I have an expected ship date of May 27th on them. :/ Oh well, I have plenty of other things in my backlog, but they must be pretty ridiculously backordered. (note: I ordered them with the 3 Kraken discs too so maybe they're holding up all of my order cause of one of those instead, it doesn't show any detailed explanation, just lists May 27th as expected ship date for all 6 items).

Are you saying the blu-rays do use the newer 2008 remasters aired in Japan? Are the top images from the blu-rays? If so it looks likes there's black crush because a lot of detail is lost on the top screencaps.

You'd think Japan would be on top of film restoration, but they're barely any better than Hong Kong with any of this stuff.
What a shame. Like you said, you would think Japan would be on the top with remasters.

New York charges the tax. They've just coerced Amazon into collecting it for them.
