It subverts the 'Betty and Veronica' idea by having Veronica as the girl torn between two romantic interests - the dull, safe option (Duncan) or the wild, passionate option (Logan). Certain episodes also subvert tropes
[Show spoiler]one that particularly comes to mind is the episode where Veronica chooses the wrong side; she defends a teacher accused of sleeping with a student, only to discover he's a total sleaze by the end
. It just has a different tone to any other detective series, and not just because of the protagonist. It has the constant theme of the warring classes, strong multi-layered arcs (at least the first two seasons), and interesting character dynamics, particularly between the teens and their parents. I guess it's the amalgamation of all those elements that makes it different to me.

I agree with a lot of that. Although I find the story arcs in the first two seasons too drawn out. And the resolution to the second season, to me, undermines the mystery / crime. I did like the shorter stories in season three but the new characters added nothing.

Still, for all it's faults, it's better than what I suspect season four would have been going on the ten minute promo they made.

My Kickstarter rewards came today and oddly it wasn't a combo pack but a separate DVD and Blu Ray. This is odd as the BR isn't even for sale here in the UK.

That could be very valuable if they don't release a blu ray any time soon

So Warner Bros. even went to the effort of creating/printing UK covers and presumably discs, but they can't be arsed to put it in stores?

They don't have UV codes and the Blu Ray doesn't have a bar code at all.

It definitely sounds like a promotional copy. If it had an EAN it might be a hint that we'll get a BD release. As to the UV codes didn't you Kikckstarter supporters get a UV digital copy? I remember reading it was useless to some people as UV is only supported in a few countries. So WB had to offer an alternative DC.

Any chance you could post a clear back cover scan, and confirm what languages and bonus features are on the UK Blu-ray disc?

Well, the UK DVD at least, only includes the documentary thats on the US disc, so unless they're just not advertised on the back, thats all you get.

There is a gag reel, deleted scene and about 5 mini featurettes as well as the Kickstarter doc on the Blu Ray. I will list then all when I get home from work.

I hate it when they do that, why go to the trouble of having the features if no one knows if they're on there. Boggles my mind, to be fair the whole thing does.

The only feature on the DVD is Behind The Scenes: By The Fans. shame as well the Blu ray looks great for extras as well. Pissed that the film has only come out in the UK on DVD. However the film was really good.
Big fan of the show.
