Moan moan moan!!!

If it isnt good so what? Just ignore it! The same way I ignore the vast majority of dull as dishwater generic superhero films.

Im a massive Blade Runner fan and Im really excited about this - Im hoping it will be half-good at least, that will be enough for me

even though they won't adapt any of the books, Phillip K Dick's original novel had three literary sequels:

Blade Runner 2: The Edge of Human
Blade Runner: Replicant Night
Blade Runner: Eye of Talon

Good to see you're setting your sights high.

If it's only half as good, what's the point of making it? You say, just ignore it if it's bad, but that's only achievable to an extent. Every time I watch ALIEN now, I can't help but have PROMETHEUS in my mind. When they discover the space jockey in that chair, I'm never going to be able to completely forget the ridiculous, retro-fitted idea that it's a bald guy in a suit and not some mystifying life form in itself. It doesn't ruin the film for me because I saw it back in 1979, but it doesn't enhance my enjoyment either.

There's no reason why a sequel to BLADE RUNNER couldn't be good - there's plenty of material there and no inherent narrative block to development. It's just a matter of having talented, imaginative individuals address the problem and giving them the proper time and artistic environment to work it out. If they don't come up with something brilliant, everyone concerned needs to have the sense not to make it.

The worst scenario is the one you seem fine with - that as long as it's "half as good" they should go ahead. Sadly, this company seems hellbent on making it, so it's likely they'll be thinking along the same lines. No doubt they see it as a commercial opportunity; although, ironically, what made BLADE RUNNER great was the fact that it broke all the rules of the blockbuster. If it had been less interesting, it would have been more successful and we'd probably already have seen several sequels.

I know the fans of the original wont like this but IMO Id rather see them remake or reboot the whole thing. The film needs it. Its got its moments but overall its rather a disappointment and a let down. Needs more character devlelopment, better pacing, better story, better lots of stuff.

And dont claim its blasphemy to suggest it - remakes and reboots are the way of things and its obvious that NO film is truly off limits.

And, to round up a new batch of fans of the film it needs to be updated and modernized. Show it to most(not all) viewers now and they'll be possibly bored and irrtated by it. Just like they are with some other "classics".

Just saying. Now, I need to run for my life as the BR fans attack!

Yeah, they'll stay away from those because Deckard is human.

I still think Deckard is human and I really enjoyed Prometheus! No, not trolling, just stating my legitimate unpopular opinion

Regardless of opinions for or against, they will make this sequel if they can.

If I was for it, I would not delude myself into thinking that the producers are going to sink a couple of hundred mil into a sci fi action movie with an actor going on 72 years old as the lead without a younger co star that Ford's character "Deckard" will either assist, be assisted or be hunted by depending on the script.

Blade Runner's ending for me was closed ended enough and not a property that's been watered down over the years with sequels, spinoffs and video games like "Alien" for me not to care just a little about a proposed sequel.

I'm always open to being pleasantly surprised so we'll see.

Why can't they just leave things alone? These 30+ year sequels just stink.

I do agree, they'll just shove some familiar visuals on the screen and hope it floats because we'll all recognise it.

One reason BR is so special for me is the use of hands on effects...models, trick of the eye effects, real sets, real makeup, real props etc...

I think we can safely say this will include a lot of CGI.

i think ht's a Replicant, the same class as Rachel. having found her, more & more, i think he suspects it's true. it will be interesting how they spin this, IF they make the movie that is.

I can see why folks think Blade Runner is overrated – I saw both Alien and Blade Runner in the theaters as a kid (parents didn’t expect Alien to actually try to hurt the audience like it did – bad judgment call on their part and I am eternally grateful) . When I was 11yrs old and still traumatized by Alien - I saw Blade Runner and remember thinking – This is going to be f**king scary and R rated as it gets. It obviously wasn’t that…It was just very cool looking and had a great vibe to it. Even at that early age I could appreciate the craft behind making it. The story was secondary to me.

If the original were made today – the sets, models, effects and everything would be CGI, soulless and not interesting at all. The story would have to support the movie and it would be a boring waste of time. This is what we are in for regarding the sequel.

And let me add – A young creepy/cool Rutger Hauer was the real star of Blade Runner – Harrison Ford just went through the motions.

I am a huge Blade Runner fan but will be skipping this. I will also skip the special European Cut and then the Directors Cut in the future and once the Final Cut is released I will buy the set of all of them on the format of the day.

'Half good' would make for a very low ceiling but it's a perfectly reasonable place to put a floor.

Honestly, my interest is piqued. My curiosity lends a desire to see where the writers might go with the story. If Deckard is in fact a replicant, it would be fascinating to see him deal with and come to terms with this revelation; or, perhaps, try to completely refute the notion altogether. In this respect, what if the hunter becomes the hunted?

P.S. I enjoyed Prometheus.

I initially thought Prometheus was okay but not too terribly impressive. The second time around it really grew on me.

And it really is gorgeous. Whatever other concerns one might have about Sir Ridley his visual sense is as strong as ever.

My thoughts exactly. It's bad enough Ridley Scott made the atrocity that was Prometheus. Sorry, but there are certain films that don't need prequels (Alien), or sequels (Blade Runner).

The mystery that was the origin of the Space Jockey and the xenomorphs in Alien are part of what made that film so terrifying (and by extension Aliens and maybe even Alien 3).

Blade Runner is just a film that needs no sequel. It's perfect just as it is. The only way I could ever see a sequel having any merit whatsoever is if they create a completely new story within the same universe (i.e. new characters, possibly even new settings). Involving Harrison Ford is just going to kill the mystery of Blade Runner's ending (
[Show spoiler]is he or isn't he a Replicant
).
