GOTG looks gorgeous and colorful, so I think it's pretty easy to assume AOU is going to pop as well.

As for how the movie is going to perform - I think it's going to do well. Not a billion and below CA: TWS numbers, but it will be a success. We have to remember that Iron Man, Cap, and Thor were "nobodies" at one time, too. They weren't well-known to the general audience and now look at them.

We also have to factor in the Marvel Studios brand, which people are aware of.

If it gets good reviews and good word of mouth (and I do think the reviews will be good), that will also help it.

You add the cast, plus the originality/creativity/freshness, plus the lack of too much real competition... should do pretty well. Like The Avengers, looks like there's something in this film for everyone. You can market it to both the comic book fans, the average movie goer, and kids. Kids are gonna eat up Rocket and Groot stuff.

I think, much like Star Wars, people will overlook how "out there" it is if you give them a good movie and a good time. You make it fun -- and this looks fun as hell -- you give them a ride, good, colorful characters to care about, big action and special effects and things they haven't seen before? Audiences are gonna show up.
Well said.

Awesomeness? Likely.
Cohesiveness? Not likely.

But I agree, it should be one of the best, if not the most fun film of the entire summer, and that's big for a movie coming out in August.

August blockbusters have made a comeback!

It's weird, but in an awesome way.

Marvel's sassy attitude with the whole "You're Welcome" on the poster and the way the trailers are presented and everything is them saying, "We know this is weird and out there, but it's f#$%ing awesome and we believe in it 100%." That kind of confidence is good and in August I think it'll pay off.

Yup. I'm honestly more excited for this than say, another Thor or Iron Man sequel.

That trailer was EPIC! I have a feeling I'm going to watch it multiple times opening weekend. Maybe more than I did TWS!

Don't indulge BE. He's just on route to being the next Nagysaudio.

How many times did you watch TWS theatrically? I only saw it once so I can savor that moment until it hits blu-ray, but believe me, I was itching to view it at least 2-3 times. GOTG looks like tons of fun though, so I can see myself giving it multiple viewings.

I'm avoiding as many trailers as possible from here on out, so having only seen the first trailer for GotG, that's good enough for me. I see every Marvel movie and will most definitely see this one. Trailers for Marvel movies tend to show too much, and I'm certain this one will be no different, since these characters are unknowns so the marketing team will try to convince audiences to see it by showing all of the action. I don't know what Groot sounds like and I have only heard one line spoken by Rocket Raccoon from a featurette that appeared online, so I want to go into this as blind as possible. I'm sure it'll all pay off. The reactions to this trailer seem to be very positive.

Joss Whedon is trying to shoot in locations where The Avengers haven't visited before. That's why you've seen reports of them shooting in South Africa and South Korea.
I'd say a large portion of this movie is CGI. So I hope to see more practical sets and locations with Age of Ultron.

Still, Guardians looks absolutely fantastic. As if I'm not already excited for it. The trailer make August an unbearable wait. And I love the 70s soundtrack. Even though I'm an 80s person.

I love going to the theater and I always have friends or dates to go with so I go a lot. I saw TWS 7 times opening weekend. I've seen it around 15 times in theaters. I've seen Godzilla twice so far, going again tomorrow.

7 times opening weekend? That's impressive

Do you intentionally wake up in the morning just to see how many people you can pi$$ off or does it come naturally?

A simple "I didn't care for it" would have sufficed. Or better yet, say nothing at all if it is just to elicit backlash from others.

Didn't your mother ever tell you that if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all??

Rocket finally gets his voice and all the haters can do is say that the new trailer is "generic". Come on? "You mean the fate of 12 billion people is in the fate of these four criminals?" Rocket: "OH YEAH!"

Gotta tell you, that scene is freaking hilarious. Bradley Cooper rocks as Rocket Raccoon.
