I really hope the 15 disc edition doesn't sell out, it's the only one worth getting

maybe because the majority of people still are impressed by the HD upgrade, the novelty of getting films that deliver a great nostalgia feeling for many, and let's face facts.... not as anal and nitpicky....

Perhaps. I suppose my fascination comes off negatively, I find it legitimately interesting that you take a mediocre transfer. With the Echo Bridge or Mill Creek logo there will generally be widely pointed criticisms, but with the Shout logo on it there's just nothing they could do. I think it says a lot for the power of branding in forming people's opinions and perspectives.

Oh come on....you can't compare Shout to Echo Bridge

No ones being anal or nitpicky just calling it as they see it..a terrible release.

People like you will defend Scream/Shout no matter what.

Why? I have no idea.

Everyone appreciates Scream releasing well known and cult favourites on blu ray, but that doesn't mean they should stand for subpar quality releases does it?

Its limited in the sense that when it sells out only the 10-Disc set will be available. Who knows how strictly limited it will even be, though, as its not numbered or anything.

people "like me" appreciate getting the films.... there have been a couple Scream releases I was a little disappointed in but there have been many others that were ripped apart here on these forums that I think look great!
My concern as of late is that this is the Scream thread and it seems lately that all it is is a sounding board for endless complaints... I think many people here are being too negative and are freaking out over minor issues...

I agree maybe people should just appreciate that we are getting these cult films on Bluray to begin with. I think most of scream factory transfers have been atleast decent. Universal puts out worse transfers than scream especially on older titles for example.

People just love to complain. It is not all Shout/Scream anyway as they aren't handling most of these transfers. IF they are supplied with a sub-par master there is only so much they can really do. If you have seen the Digital HD copy of Ravenous from either Amazon, iTunes etc. you'll see that isn't nothing to right home about.

I looked at a couple of the screen caps on capsaholic and compared to the DVD there, it looked like a good improvement. Now, that's just me looking at screen caps on a non-HD monitor with who knows what settings. I imagine the movie will look better in motion on my tv. I'm a mostly poor judge of screen caps when it comes to those taken from movies shot on film. The main reason being, film grain. To me it doesn't translate well into a screen cap for the most part. Well, it depends really I suppose on how heavy the grain is. If it's a movie like Jaws, well sure, cause they did a huge restoration on it. But 99% of horror movies aren't going to get that type of treatment.

I think people can put too much stock in what screen caps look like as opposed to seeing how the movie actually looks like on their home setup and in actual motion. It's why I listen more to actual reviews of the disc/movie than comments of still images. Now of course if the AR is off, colors are all screwed up or something of that nature, that's a whole different story.

Anyhow, I have Ravenous on pre-order and I'm still going to get it unless some reviews come out and really paint a bleak picture for the quality. I never bought the US DVD, so it would be nice to finally own it.

I think it is perfectly fair to criticize a transfer that ANY company releases. I'm not as picky as some, so what I might think is acceptable, particularly for a low-budget movie, might be something a pure "videophile" might find revolting.

What confuses me, however, is how companies like Echo Bridge will get dragged through the mud for a $5-$10 release but a company that shall remain nameless could release that same movie transfer and charge $30 for it and people would run to defend that release because it was "the only way" it would be released.

To me a bad transfer is a bad transfer no matter who releases it or what the cost or perceived "collectibility" is.

I haven't watched all of my Shout purchases (or Scream purchases) so I can't respond to specific gripes on specific releases.

Same here....the OOP DVD was too rich for my blood. Yeah, technically I could have gotten it....but then I turn around and start a trend of buying an older format, which I still do for certain things (anime and wrestling to name a couple)... but still, I judge things when I see them. Yeah, I've had my Tremors and Predator UHE edition moments where I was like, "f*ck this transfer!" Then I've had moments with The Shadow, where it's widescreen and clearly better than the dvd's I've watched hundreds of time. Same with They Live.... We all have different views and perspectives, but Ravenous has been on my wish list for bluray since the beginning. I'll complain, if it's a real problem in my eyes. If I don't complain, then it's just fine. Much like how I operate at work. Small sh*t don't bother me....big sh*t does... So far, Scream hasn't hit the fan with anything.

There were a lot of complaints regarding the Phantasm 2 transfer but that looks nowhere near as bad as the Ravenous one.

http://www.caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergl...ess=#vergleich

Look at that cap from their darkman release.

Scream really need to sort it out!

To those who will never say a bad word and keep singing Screams praises, you are are spoling it for everyone else. If you keep praising and applauding these bad releases then nothing's ever going to change regarding quality issues.

Some of us don't buy all of Scream's releases and are picky....I, for one, did not buy Darkman, Lifeforce, etc.... but for what I have bought, I haven't been disappointed....but none of their releases are perfect. No release is perfect, it's life. If I don't like a transfer I see one of two things happens. I sell it or put it in permanent storage for gifting to someone else who doesn't care about pq. I do have friends like this.
