Are the 5.1 my best bet? I don't my shelling out the money if it's a legit experience but I'm worried about all the "maybe" answers......

If so, should I get the Pioneer or import a japanese sony one? where do I import?

so do you want earphones or headphones?

and all those headphones we've been talkin about in this post are stereo, not surround. Are you lookin for a pair can produce home theater surround sound?

and ppl should understand there is no such a thing as best headphone Ever? it depends on the purpose of that earphones or headphones of your choice. however, one thing is for sure, SONY MDR-R10 is undeniable the King of headphones!

and for some poor ppl, I have enough money and connections to buy your small country if that's legal, my knowledge and experience are "million light years" ahead of yours, so, shush, hush!

The best headphones ever is such a subjective question. What's best for me might not be the best for you. I made my recommendation based on the poster's goal. Recommend a great headphone that will be used for PSP playing and that's hardly a need for audiophile quality headphones.

So the best headphone's ever for the poster is any of smaller portable headphones because that is what the PSP is - a portable device.

I recommend that the poster go test listen to Shure, Ultimate Ears, Etymotic, etc. headphones. BTW, my friend and I did a side by side comparison of the above named headphones at a Head-fi.org meet and the best portable headphones for us were the Shure's. However, the overall best portable headphones for me is the B&O because I can't stand anything sticking in my ears.

Id avoid the Sony's.. They use their own DSP, & isn't as good as Dolby's Dolby Headphone DSP.. If I were you I'd get a quality headphone & a 5.1 adapter that supports DH, or buy a reciever that supports DH, or one that has a very good SS DSP like the Yamaha's..

Do stereo headphones work with a 5.1? I mean, is the sound better listening from a 5.1 track than a stereo track on the headphones?
Yes, it's worth it for movies & gaming.. But the 5.1 headsets with 8 drivers need to be avoided.

very good, SA5000 is for few people, cuz most people nowadays, "they don't want music, they just want BoomBoomBoom"

SA5000 is for someone who has real taste and knowledge of what studio recording is! Enjoy man, good choice there!

Would you choose those overt the MDRDS700 (rf) I try to avoid IR systems generally, and I wouldn't mind paying a bit more for RF ones.....plus they're 7.1 and allegedly super compatible with my ps3....

I doubt you'd be able to a hear a noticeable difference between 5.1/7.1 headphones.. 5.1 is stretching it as it is, since headphones are only two channel to begin with.

Try to match the quality of the head/earphones with the quality of your source media and the quality of the decoder and DAC. Best is so relative so consider the economy of scale. I don't own a PSP but I can't imagine the content or the hardware quality coming close to requiring my Shure SEs.

So if you're using 128Kbps MP3 and a crap decoder and DAC, don't spent tons. I compress but only use lossless encodes to preserve the quality. I didn't say "sorry headphones". Balance the equipment. Best is relative based on vectors of functions.

I use the MDR-EX52 and the sound is awesome. You can get a pair usually for under 40 bucks

There is not much difference between the 2 I just mentioned. Prolly just a design change. But the sound quailty is excellent
Ditto. I'm using it as I type right now. They're great sounding earbud headphones.

well note there are two 700, one is MDR-DS700 and the other is MDR-RF700.

another thing, I noted that on http://www.ecat.sony.co.jp/headphone...ory.cfm?B3=403
both DS and RF are out production, so the only choice would be MDR-RF700.

you also need to consider just how many games on psp out there actually have 7.1 soundtrack.

If I were you, I'd get a MDR-DS4000/MDR-IF4000, which is more than enough for a PSP. but for REAL portability and great sound quality, I would go with a pair of MDR-EX85SL, for noise canceling, get MDR-NC32NX.
