Cruise has practically made all of the best Sci-Fi movies in the past decade, but this is just plain stupid.

He's incredibly smart and is a perfectionist when it comes to small detail. He designed the pod ship in oblivion with real science behind it.

So why is he letting this slip here and dumb down what seems to be a pretty clever Sci-Fi movie?
It's a good thing that you dont have tons of unrealistic sci-fi fantasy films in your collection because that would make you a....oh wait....never mind.

The mecha suits were basically excellent - they had weight and they were shown to move in awkward realistic ways. Wasnt that good enough?

No one properly knows, and to be fair it's fairly inconsequential to the plot, the only theory really offered up is that
[Show spoiler]they need the Earth's atmosphere.

I enjoyed the film, I thought it was reasonable fun and had a lot of attitude and charisma to it, plus it's nice to have a blockbuster that's simple and self-contained for the most part, no comic book continuity or franchise building (granted if this is a hit, studio execs will do anything including but not limited to sacrificing their first born son to get it greenlit).

But I have one question concerning the Deus ex machina ending that left me a bit hung up and dry:
[Show spoiler]Does that mean the invasion is over? Somehow the destruction of the time traveling mahicky means that it somehow transported Tom Cruise to the day before but the event also happened the day before? And if the invasion is over why are the troops still getting ready to assault the beach? It was all a bit rushed and I wasn't overall keen on it.

I dunno either. Probably the weakest part of the movie.

Maybe someone who read the novels can shed some light?

1) It's already out in other countries.

Thanks. Unfortunately, the only one in Wisconsin is in Wauwatosa (a suburb of Milwaukee) on Monday. I'm not going to drive there from Madison (I might but I know my wife won't). I can't wait to see this film. Everything I'm hearing makes me want to see it even more.

I love repeating time period movies (although, perhaps strangely, I did not like Groundhog Day; I think the TV movie, 12:01, which came out the same year was vastly superior; also loved Source Code). And Tom Cruise can make amends for that Oblivion dud.

Either advance screenings or different release dates internationally. Most countries got it either the 28th or 29th.
