Discs tend to be sent from a warehouse (probably outsourced, which is why different companies might ship from the same place) or even from the pressing plant.

I don't know if they share the same one, but I know that there are a ton of distribution centers there. A lot of different online purchases I make from American online retailers ship from Shepardsville KY or somewhere closeby in KY.

Still Walking was a very beautiful and moving film. The film follows a family as they reunite for approximately 24 hours on the anniversary of one of their relatives' deaths and it is quite evident from the beginning that there is a strain between everyone to a certain degree.
I think the family drama is the most realistic and honest type of film and I have truly been moved by every single one of them that I've seen. If you're a fan of Tokyo Story or another of Ozu's other films, then I'm sure you will like this film, and I am sure, the rest of the Kore-eda catalogue (that I will hopefully check out more of soon). |

It took me 18 months to wear out my first Blu-ray player.
About a month ago, my Samsung BDE5400 started having trouble reading discs, and the problem became worse until the player was rejecting the discs several times before finally playing them. Once the player would accept a disc, the disc would play with no problems, but it just took several tries. Earlier today, the player ejected my Blu-ray of The Sound of Music about five or six times before it finally played the disc. After I finished watching that Blu-ray, I tried a hard reset, and that did not help when I tried to put another disc in the player. I guess that, after watching my Blu-rays on a near-daily basis, and sometimes two or three movies a day on most weekends, this player decided that it was time to start kicking the bucket. RIP Samsung BDE5400, you served me well and I certainly got my $70 worth a year and half ago. I went to the Target across the street from my place, bought a Samsung BDF5700 for $89 plus the Target two-year protection plan for $7, and set it up in less than two minutes. This one is even more user-friendly, and, when I was watching my first Blu-ray on it this evening, I did not hear any noise at all, unlike the other Samsung that used to make slight noises ever so often during movies. So, you ask, what was the first movie that I watched on my new Blu-ray player? Delmer Daves's Jubal for the win. ![]() I love me some 1950s CinemaScope, and Jubal is one amazing-looking film. The outdoor scenery of the Wyoming mountains is stunning, and the indoor scenes are lighted in a wonderful noir-edged shadowy style. I could watch westerns like this all day long. Glenn Ford is impressive as the title character, and he almost outshines his role in Daves's 3:10 to Yuma. The late great Ernest Borgnine is perfect in one of his many roles as a character whom you would love to meet. Rod Steiger commands just as much attention, though, as a vindictive and envious antagonist. Charles Bronson and noir-fixture Jack Elam both shine in their small roles, and Valerie French is a western femme-fatale that has to be seen to be believed. The beautiful Felicia Farr is just as memorable here as she is in 3:10 to Yuma. Jubal is a luxuriously-paced western that kept me fascinated all the while, thanks to Daves's trademarks of likable characters and spectacular scenery. This Criterion Blu-ray is short on supplements, but the disc excels in both video quality and audio quality. The booklet essay by Kent Jones is a fun and informative read. Hats off to one of the most underrated titles in the Criterion Collection. Last edited by The Great Owl; 06-02-2014 at 12:35 AM. |

I think I'm going to start checking out Lee Chang Dong's catalogue soon. I've been itching to see Secret Sunshine and I've heard wonderful things about Poetry. What is your opinion on these two films? |

I know someone recently posted some luke warm comments about Secret Sunshine, so its possible its not for everyone, but his films resonate very strongly with me. |

![]() You, Andrew Sarris and PT Anderson can't be wrong about Lola Montes, but at this point, it's my least favorite in the Collection. It seems so predictably contrived to me that I don't get into it. But it's due a revisit. Maybe if I give it a third try..... Your post, Shell, picked two of my few grumps. Maybe I'll talk about Kore-eda. |

I'd feel pretty safe predicting you'll like Still Walking. I thought it was very touching and not at all as simple as it first appeared. Kore-eda manages to put something universal in front of his lens rather than something culture specific. I think Nobody Knows is one of the best films of the last ten years, and after Still Walking was released, I hoped Criterion was going to release others. But we didn't get I Wish (very unfairly criticized as trite), and I haven't seen anything about Like Father, Like Son. So, fingers crossed. If Criterion wanted to do a duet by a single filmmaker, this would be a great place to go. |
