I just watched Carnival of Souls on Hulu last night, that movie is seriously awesome. I had been under the false impression that it was some kind of crummy zero budget roger corman movie or something, but wow. I also hope they release it on bluray, but I might buy their DVD anyway.

The arrow release of Sisters is really great, I'd highly recommend it and it's region-free. It has a ton of extras and really good picture quality.

What do you want from a Criterion release that wasn't on the Arrow one?

I've posted this already in another thread, but...

Criterion are going to have to work miracles if their Blu-ray Disc of The Innocents is to top the BFI release.

It's one of my Top 10, so usually I'd double dip in a heartbeat at the chance of even a slight improvement, but the UK release is so very good I'm struggling to imagine what 'better' would be.

There are folks who don't think a movie is a classic unless it has a Criterion C on the cover. I guess those folks will buy the Criterion. But I've loved this film since I first saw it... one of the most layered and disturbing films I've ever seen. When they released the unlocked version in Germany, I went right out and ordered it. I probably won't upgrade because the German version is perfect as far as I can see.

Interviews (esp archived Jack Clayton material assuming such things are out there) would be nice. The two shorts in the BFI release are good extras (I don't listen to commentaries so I can't comment on that) but one would think a film as highly regarded and influential as The Innocents would be fertile interview material.

Oh, and if they want to throw in a copy of Room of the Top that would be okay too. Granted, that seems...unlikely...but may our reach always exceed our grasp and whatnot

That's just your opinion - and if Criterion has it, there is always a chance it could look better than BFI - Time will answer all the questions

Yes, it's an opinion but it's a pretty reasonable one. BFI did a very, very nice job.

Oh, I wasn't aware of the BFI one. I'll wait till they announce the extras on the criterion one and get whichever has better ones. I occasionally end up going with other releases over Criterion for that reason (ex, Rififi). I'll always go for the better extras if the video is comparable quality.

well I just viewed this film last night.... one of the best horror films I have ever seen the plot has so many layers I feel as it's definitely one of those films I could watch again and again and still find something new with each viewing.

Deborah Kerr is magnificently cast as the Governess

I had previously mentioned to Twilight Time via facebook that they should consider releasing it because of my desire to have more Deborah Kerr in my BD collection. But after actually seeing it I would say it is to good for them

I hope that this rumor of a Criterion is true lots of extras please !!!!

The BFI disc is fantastic too, but as this is my favourite horror, and it's Criterion, I feel a double dip coming on.

Freddie Francis was cinematographer on this, he was great with B&W (The Elephant Man). This should look great from Criterion.

Awesome movie. I think it's the best ghost story ever filmed. I would kill to see this on a big screen in Cinemascope...

not to brag ... okay, yes I am ... but the first time I saw this at the AFI Silver - this was harrowing to experience on the big screen - several times the hairs on my neck stood straight up

I really like The Innocents and this would be cool news. I'd hope the whole October slate is horror / spooky movies so we get Eraserhead too.

I hear it's a great release but it's region locked so Criterion really isn't competing with BFI.

Me neither. The original Poltergeist beats the hell out of both of those. I almost fell asleep on those two. I just don't understand what the big fuss is about.
