I can't wait to see Luke Skywalker back in action here. That is what I'm excited for more than anything. Hopefully he gets an introduction as cool as he had in Return of the Jedi.

Fully agreed. His introduction in 'Return of the Jedi' is probably one of my all time favorite moments in the series, so I hope he's given a similar one here. It's going to be great to see Hamill back in the role after all these years. He's taking it seriously too, because he looks great. All the working out really paid off.

I'm sure his input is still highly valued by Abrams and he will carry at least some influence on the films.
Also, Lucas had prepared treatments for all three of the sequels before he approached Disney. Iger asked to see them before he would agree to purchase LucasFilm, and George felt a bit insulted, thinking they should simply trust him based on his track record, and if they didn't trust him, he could always go to someone else. Eventually, he relented, but only three people at Disney were allowed to see the treatments. Iger was impressed by the storytelling potential in the treatments, the rest is history.

So, I wouldn't worry too much about missing George. The broad plot outlines are his, while the actual screenwriting duties are shared by Abrams and Kasdan, so it's likely Lucas will receive story credit in addition to creative consultant credit.

Yes, it gives him very Obi-Wan/Alec Guinness look.

J.J. Abrams was able to make me miss William Shatner directing Star Trek so I have faith that he can make me miss ol' Georgie boy.

I'm the opposite, I thought the original TV show was incredibly hokey and WAY dated, the movies were mediocre with terrible over the top acting and like the TV show do not hold up unless you were a fan of them from the start.

The original series and its movies, I did like Next Generation but their movies were not very good either.

JJ Abram's Star Trek movies made me care about Star Trek. No more 'holes' or 'flaws' than any other film you can watch today, far less than any of the superhero films out there but I'm a big fan of those too so I let that all go for the most part.

Personally I'm excited for the new films, the more I see the better. But I think we all have to face it if you're Star Wars fan--Episode 7 is make or break time. The prequels and constant editing with the original films and all the retconning with it has pulled the original series down.

Episode 7 can be something great that will ressurect the excitement of the original, or it could be the Indiana Jones 4 of the series with some liking it, a great many not.

Lucas showed us he can make an Indiana Jones 4 by...giving us an Indiana Jones 4. If Abrams does it, then he's being just like Lucas so those who want Lucas instead will essentially get what they asked for

Or it could be the kick in the ass the series needed. The Prequels were not as horrid as people made them out to be they did have there moments of wow holy crap. Yoda fighting Duku, Yoda vs Emperor, Anakin vs Obi Wan, Darth Maul. The problem with the prequels was the wooden acting, which lies solely on the director, we have all seen both leads in Star Wars Episodes 1-3 in different roles both are good actors in there own rights. But Together with the way Lucas chose to direct which even Terrance Stamp commented on about not being in ANY of the rooms with other actors, he flat out said it sucked. The problem with Episodes 1-3 were the director and the script, Lucas cant write for crap hence the stupid lines in Episodes 1-3. The 2 movies from the original trilogy everyone loves ROTJ and Empire were not written by Lucas, base story was but screenplay was not. People tend to forget this small but important fact.

I HOPE this statement is laced with sarcasm because to suggest that the Abrams-directed Star Trek movies are worse than The Final Frontier is flat out ridiculous. I know opinions vary but if you're being serious, you're letting your affinity for the original series cloud your judgement way too much.

But I digress. I am actually very excited that Abrams is directing this movie. After reading so many accounts from actors who have worked with Lucas as a director, it's become quite clear that Lucas' talent is NOT in "the chair" and I have to wonder if a lot of the blame on the wooden performances from many of the actors in the prequels should be directly attributed to Lucas' inability to get what he wanted out of them.

I do love the prequels but you're right, the screenplays were pretty dire but the casting was excellent.

I'm not sure how a tv show that predicted many future technological advancements can be classed as dated.

The show and it's spin offs could go incredibly deep at times, touching up on many subjects such as racism, sexism etc.

Also the occasional over the top acting usually on Shatner's behalf is part of the appeal haha!

Without it we wouldn't have had this:

The Final Frontier is one of my favorite Star Trek movies. Yes it's hokey, but extremely entertaining. JJ's Star Treks are all crap with the latest being simply insulting to even a barely thinking human.

I'm not crazy about AbramsTrek, I liked the first one but thought Into Darkness sucked, but I'd still watch it over and over again all day long before ever watching The Final Frontier again.
