Very unexpected, I haven't seen the sequels but the first one was quite enjoyable.

I'm glad to see that since the new film is coming out Lion's Gate has taken the opportunity to release this. I've always enjoyed the first one. I watched the HD digital version off of Amazon a while back, and it looked great.

I do like the second one, too. I've seen all of them, but I don't remember much of the others. Also, most of the DVDs were in full screen or non-anamorphic widescreen, which is one reason I haven't revisited the series recently. I think only part 2 was in anamorphic widescreen.

First and second were fun, but it all drastically went downhill for me after that. When the Lep is calling out his 'fly zombie *****es', I... i just can't.

"A lep in the hood is up to no good!"

Oye.

This is probably only coming out because of the new Leprechaun.

Aw hell yeah, about damn time. The movies are mostly bad but in the best way. Here's how I'd rank them:

1. Leprechaun 2 - fun, campy, the closest the franchise got to a well-rounded horror flick

2. Leprechaun 3 - silly but entertaining without going overboard, some good effects

3. Leprechaun in the Hood - surprisingly not that bad for the reputation is has, very watchable

4. Leprechaun - frankly boring and uninteresting at times, actually one of the hardest for me to sit through, feels like a Critters rip-off

5. Leprechaun: Back to tha Hood - just a pretty stupid movie with no likable characters, the "hood" element wears thin

6. Leprechaun 4: In Space - dear god, one of the worst movies ever made. I love bad movies and this ranks in my top 3 of all time

Some screen caps from the itunes HD versions of the first three movies:

Leprechaun

Leprechaun 2

Leprechaun 3

I hope Leprechaun 2 has it's color timing corrected for the blu ray release (everything looks muted). I compared it to the DVD version and the DVD looks perfect (colorwise).

I emailed Lions Gate last year about the issue but didn't recieve a reply.
