Perhaps someone will invent an automated chair kicker to enhance the home theater experience.

And while they're at it, they can also invent some flooring that feels "sticky" under your feet to accurately simulate the cinema experience.

Took the wife and kids to see Shrek also. Thought it was the weak link of the 3. Only my 10 year old liked it. On the picture side I didn't think it looked all that great either. I really liked the first 2, maybe expectations were unrealistic.

While I agree that my home theater set up is in many ways superior to my local cinema (Brit here), I still love going to the movies. I'll never have such a huge screen in my front room, nor will I be able to drop pop corn all over my floor and spill soft drink all over my couch as I do in the local Odeon

But seriously, there's more to the cinema experience than just watching the movie. That said, when I was watching Spider-Man 3 a couple of weeks back I could help thinking "I can't wait until my BD of this arrives!!!"

I couldn't agree with you more on that point! There is nothing like seeing a action or comedy with the opening night theatre crowd jammed packed in the theatre. It just gives it that extra depth of enjoyment.

I don't remember when the first Batman came out (Keaton, Nicholson) but I saw that movie opening night with a bunch of friends. Guessing it was released late 80s-early 90s so maybe I was around 20.

When the batplane went above the clouds and hung suspended in front of the moon EVERYONE in the theater collectively went "WHOA!" That was one of the coolest moments for me in a movie theater, something you just cannot replicate at home. Not to mention that 15 or so years later I still remember that feeling like it was yesterday.

Same thing with, of all things, Star Wars Episode 2, which is probably the most hated of the 6 movies. When Yoda came on to fight Dooku first with the force, and then he drew his lightsaber... even the people who absolutely hated the movie up until that point (it was obvious how many detractors there were booing and making comments during the love-story development) started cheering and clapping and getting excited.

You just can't get that (with today's technology at least heh) at home today.

For the most part I agree with this thread and I enjoy movies at home more than in the theater. I tried to explain to my g/f that I don't mind spending $25-$30 on blu-ray movies because going to the movies costs MORE than that, you watch it exactly once, you cannot pause or rewind, you are not as comfortable etc.

But some movies, like POTC coming out this week, I just can't wait to be sitting in the theater for.

Of course, I will buy the BD as well.
