Something that would show no 'annoying' EE to the typical HD viewer (even including astute home theater *enthusiasts*) on a screen size that 95% of consumers own but, could well in fact show irregularities to the credits – for those that are credit watchers.

My inbox is getting flooded with queries about Patton.

Folks, the last time I saw that feature (at the Academy) was about 6 weeks after 9/11, so in all honesty, I can’t rely on my memory of that theatrical presentation due to the lapse of time and the current events going on in the world at that time.

I have not seen the Blu-ray edition…………it seems all you guys are buying up all the copies like hot cakes, at least in my humble neck of the woods.

I’m hoping that this coming Fri./Sat one of the moderators from our forum can meet with the person at Fox that spearheaded the restoration back in the day and should be familiar with the production of the home media version.

P.S. Regardless of ^.
He had better take some pics of the projector!

I have no problem with any adjustments and changes that are approved by the director and/or the DP

People are free to disagree with the choices they make (Lucas and Star Wars come to mind), but no one can argue that what the creative staff desires as the form of their creation is wrong or inferior.

YAY!! I've wondered if I would ever hear someone say that...

Replacing Sebastian Shaw with Hayden Christensen in Episode 6 was moronic though...

I disagree. In the case of Lucas and Star Wars, I would most certainly argue that many of the changes he made are both wrong and inferior.

And I'm fine with them...I was 9 when Episode IV came out and my childhood is doing just fine.

Me too. None of the changes have affected my love of the movies. In fact, I prefer a perfectionist filmmaker to one who doesn't really have anything to say lol.

Now ask me about changes made to films by people other than the filmmaker and I'll have a different viewpoint

You're not the director/creator. He is. Anything he does regarding his creation is by default right

It's your right to disagree with his choices, and refuse to watch or buy, but you can't say he's wrong

Sorry, but I can and will say he's wrong. The mere fact that he is the creator does not mean every decision he makes is automatically right and good.

I don't want to take Penton's thread any more off topic, so I'll leave it at that.

Default Tell Me Why - The Beatles. In the Midnight Hour musings

Before I go to see the wizard the wonderful wonderful wizard of oz (hope some of us make it there too, now available single day registration) I'll say a couple of things

I got forwarded some information that indicates that archival prints on the lot are gone. Haven't received any further info or confirmation and truth to tell I'd prefer not to! Things like this weight down on me how much preservation is important and sometimes makes me so very grateful for digital too. When one thinks all that a simple reel represents and can be lost..

About our ancient reincarnating general, imho the disc looks fantastic, gorgeous, great, unless you get too close. And if you read above ^ is good that there's now a portable readily available back up that looks super nicer than most of its incarnations. But when seen at true cinema viewing angles though, it's soft. Have to sharpen it and then eeedges start to show up. And my question is why? Even hypersharpened it looks very fine grained. So why?

For a limited time only you can do a biopsy here. <- expired.

Well I'm off to see the wizards (hopefully to see a few blu ones, and soon, where he was there will be not be there.

Sooomewhere, over the rainbow...

Geez Deci, and I thought I was cryptic.
Let me translate for the folks that aren’t following your flare for literary license.

"lot" - means backlot of Uni.

The good news is that the original elements survive.
The bad news is that probably some of the titles will never be reprinted in 35mm. (think $$).

For people that actually work for a living during the weekdays, you can at least attend the Sat. session for either $125. or $150.

At 4 picture heights distance from your screen it looks great, at 2 picture heights it looks softer than some other Blu-ray discs.

Nikki Finke just reported on this... what a terrible shame. I was planning on attending a 70mm film festival in Austin over the summer and I hope this isn't going to ruin their plans for showcasing some amazing films. It's a sad day for film schools, festivals and film lovers in general.

Is four picture heights away the distance you'd generally recommend viewing from?
