Default Total newbie question, but....

...if I have a PS3 (which decodes all codecs, right?) and I want to get 7.1 HD surround sound, do I have to buy a reciever that decodes all HD audio codecs or can I just get a 7.1 setup that doesnt decode any HD audio codecs?

Kinda sounds dumb the way im asking.

You just need a receiver that will accept PCM over HDMI. You're looking at around $300 minimum.

Be also aware that PS3 doesn't decode all Flavor of DTS HD MA 7.1 Even if it's more or less than a problem it never warrant that it will.. for now. If you buy a HD Codec receiver, you won't be able to use them anyway because the PS3 doesn't send those codec in Bitstream Mode. (You need a Bitstream Blu-ray Standalone for that)

Thanks guys

Now I just gotta see whats the best setup for me in my situation.

I currently own:
Samsung bd-p1500
onkyo HT-SR600

Tryin to figure out if it would be better to get PS3 and a 7.1 theater surround sound.
Or keep the samsung and buy a Reciever that decodes True HD and DTS MA HD.

The choice is you're! Personnaly i would go with something like the Onkyo 606 witch can process a TrueHD5.1 or DTS into 7.1, that's always cool if the movie lack true 7.1
