He's been involved in several documentaries over the years, particularly involving Sam Peckinpah. He received an Oscar nomination for producing a documentary about the Wild Bunch a while back, and he's been involved in numerous audio commentaries long before he started TT. So it's not like they just got some schlub who answers the phone in reception to do a commentary.

It does not go into my top five list of Westerns on Blu-ray, simply because there's so much stellar competition both in terms of movie content and video quality (How the West Was Won, Shane, Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, Red River, Once Upon a Time in the West, the original 1957 version of 3:10 to Yuma, the new remaster of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, and so on), but it's a great Twilight Time title and an excellent film in its own right.

According to Blu-ray.com, westerns and film noir are both "strongly over-represented" in my collection. I love the way that movies in both of these genres look in glorious high definition, though, so I will continue to clog my cinematic arteries with more of these titles as they are released in the format.

I'd recommend to you The Big Gundown, which I'm sure you have heard of. It's a 60's spaghetti western with Lee Van Cleef and Tomas Milian, great cinematography, an utterly fantastic Ennio Morricone score (included on CD), and a spectacular finale. Grindhouse Releasing showed it some love with a solid transfer and 2 cuts of the movie, and plenty of interesting extras. It really is a wonderful package overall.

Thanks for the info. 30 bucks is just pretty steep, but I am a big B movie horror fan, and I had never heard of that one so it totally caught my interest.

Ha, ha... this is the first time in ages there hasn't been anything from TT I'm interested in (same with next month as well). Totally didn't realize it was pre-order day. I only just got my order from last month in the mail on Monday, am planning on watching the Mechanic as part of a Bronson-fest along with my copy of Death Wish that I haven't gotten around to watching yet. I might also re-watch my DVD double feature of St. Ives & Telefon.

This whole financial security thing is overrated.
