To celebrate the new Halloween Collection, I decided to have a play around with doing a Complete Halloween Collection, each with their own Slipcover. Starting with Halloween H20.

I really wish someone could figure out the rights to Fright Night II and get us a Scream release.

They have licensed titles from Paramount, Ridley Scott's the Duelist, so there is a line communication there. So its not out of the realm, It could be done.

I was at my friends house and there were several of us, we watched a little of the movie, and then went outside to play tag football in the dark. I remember running into places in the yard that were not lit by the street lamp and being a little scared thinking about The Video Dead zombies.... After playing outside, we came back in and watched the final 30 mins of The Video Dead on Saturday Nightmares. It was such fun and innocent times.

This memory was probably the main reason I rushed to buy the Scream Factory Double feature. And when I saw the Scream disc, it was such a huge nostalgia trip.

Remembering all these shows has been a lot of fun. For me that was the beauty of these shows: the movies were ancillary, and they didn't have to be good to hold my attention. The show itself and the anticipation of looking forward to Friday and Saturday nights all week, were enough for me to sit back, relax, and watch some terrible films on these programs. So, it was an event during my pre and early teen years.
Your memories and experiences mirror my own in a lot ways. I especially agree with you on the thought that the movies didn't always have to be good. I've found even now that more often than not if the movie has a certain charm to it (usually unique to late 80's and early 90's films) that I can look past, or at least enjoy the poor acting, effects, etc.

There's just something special about the films that came out from 85 - 92 that makes me always have a fondness in my heart for them. The stories may be cliched, the acting bad, and the effects questionable, but the way the stories were told and the look was so unique that I can almost always forgive the other problems. Even the best, most unique horror films now a days are just too slick looking. The use of Computer effects and the use of Video in place of film have all but eliminated that unique look/feel that these earlier films had.

I keep hoping that one day we'll see a revival of practical effects. I know we'll never see a return to the late 80's/early 90's, but it'd be nice to see studios try to incorporate more make-up and effects, and less CGI to create a more realistic feel. Jurassic Park proved that there can be a good balance between the 2, it's unfortunate that most studios can't seem to grasp that though and instead rely entirely on CGI.

I too grew up on Up All Night and MonsterVision and have fond memories of staying up late and watching the weirdest movies ever broadcast. One of which happened to be The Video Dead, took me years to figure out the title of the movie since I only remembered certain parts of it as a kid, lo and behold, Scream put it out on blu ray! Another movie I remembered fondly is Spookies, took me awhile to learn what the movie was called too until I googled "farting mud monsters", here's hoping they give that movie the blu treated down the road too.

I also enjoyed Elvira's Movie Macabre (which were repeats aired since this was the late 80's early 90's), shame the reboot series didn't last long but I didn't even find a channel that aired it.

Also worth mentioning was the more recent William Shatner's Full Moon Fright Night, he definitely had the camp factor down pat.

I watched Spookies for the first time 2 weeks ago. What a stinker... Nostalgia is apparently a big thing for this film as I quite honestly couldn't stand it. It was one of the worst movie watching experiences I've had in a very long time, and that's saying something because I've been watching A LOT of low budget movies lately. (Rock N Roll Nightmare, Sorority House Massacre II, Class of 1999, The Unnameable, Dream A Little Evil, etc.).

I can appreciate the fact that people do like it, and normally I'm not one to knock a film, but I'm not exactly chomping at the bit hoping it gets Blu Ray release any time soon.

I have no doubt nostalgia plays a big part for the love of a lot of movies for everyone. One person's favorite is another person's junk. Of course, I do agree with you, the movie is horrible haha, probably the reason why I like it, it was practically made for MST3K considering the drama of how the film was put together (it's essentially two movies melded into one).

Hmmm, you've seen Class of 1999 recently, I guess it's time for you to move onto Class of 1999 II: The Substitute... go ahead, watch it, muahahahahaha. If only to see Step By Step's Sasha Mitchell killing people.

I actually enjoyed Class of 1999. It reminded me of a more cleaned up higher budget Troma film. I had/have no idea on the history of Spookies, so I'll have to look into that as it may explain a lot. As for Sasha Mitchell, was he in anything else? I have vague memories of him being in some American Ninja style film when I was younger, but I have no idea what it was or if that was Class of 1999 II. I'll have to see if I can track the film down though, I assume it's had a DVD release?

The sequel, as with many sequels, was not that good.

You're probably thinking of the Kickerboxer sequels, he was the lead in like 3 or 4 of them, as the brother of Van Damme's character. He may have had some other martial arts roles too but those were the ones I remember. Mix half Class of 1999 II with Kickerboxer 2, and you get Community's Kickerpuncher!!!

I too enjoyed Class of 1999 Part 2 The Substitute and you were thinking of KIckboxer 2,3, and 4 where he stared as Van Damme's other brother. In those films Van Damme's Character is killed by a drunken Tong Po and Sasha I think his name is Eric Sloan comes to Thailand for revenge and then 3 and 4 were the further adventures of Eric Sloan. They made a fifth movie with Mark Dacascos whose character is a friend of Eric and goes after the person who killed him. I hope this helps...

I remember a few of those like Lady in White, Ghost Town, and Deadtime Stories. It would be cool to see these get Blu-ray attention. Some others I would like to see Company of Wolves, Black Roses, Trick or Treat with Ozzy, and the Dead Next Door... Those would be cool...

Paper House is one of my favorite films of all time. Its so somber. I love it and don't see how it isn't more widely recognized in America. I'd love a blu-ray.

Love Screamtime too!

I wouln't count on a US release any time soon since it's probably still with Lionsgate, but I've heard the French Blu-Ray (Region B-locked) is supposed to be pretty good.

I'd snatch up Black Roses in a Heartbeat. I watched it again this past winter after not having seen it in 20 some years. I really enjoyed it... it doesn't hold up to well to time, but it's so entertaining that it's well worth a blu ray release.

Yes I remember seeing Black Roses some 20 years ago and really enjoyed it. I would a Blu-ray Release. Trick or Treat was also a fun movie Ozzy as a TV Evangelist, what a laugh that was... Another bad but fun movie was Hard Rock Zombies, I think MST3K did that one...

There are German BDs of Black Roses and Trick or Treat and a UK disc of Company of Wolves.
