Prepare to get screwed if you buy a tv at BB for their normal price. Even their sale prices may not be all that great....

Yeah I only buy certain things at Best Buy and often have them price match Frys. I would never dream of buying a TV there. Costco (for price) or Frys (for price and service) are so much better. I stop in to BB for games mostly. I notice in some dept Best Buy has been improving prices... but overall still a joke for such a big company.

I bought my Sony Bravia 40 inch (don't remember the model) at Best Buy. It was actually a package deal with a 40G PS3 and a few other items. Everything together came out to be about $1800.00. It took a REALLY long time but I ended up saving some decent money. I was very happy with the purchase but I had to go through 2 service person until I got someone willing to work with me. Two of the blue shirts just ignored me when I started to ask them a question. It wasn't until the girl manager saw me standing there that she came and asked if I needed help. I guess the two guys didn't think I was going to buy anything since I wasn't flashing my bling.

In my experience you should use Best Buy to check the TV out and then find a deal elsewhere. Periodically you may find a decent sale on an end of line model there but it is more than likely that you would be able to beat their most generous price with another vendor.

Was on sale at Best Buy for $1000 multiple weeks and for months now.

Best Buy TV prices are not bad, but I would wait till they go on sale, then they really are (usually) the best deal.

Example LN40a550 Samsung $1500 at Best Buy, on sale $1300,
Price from Manufacturer $1100.

Amazon on sale $1288.

i have been happy with the service i have received from best buy for the most part. First tv i bought from them was a 37" westinghouse for $1519. tv was bought in 06! I got the service plan just in case and turns out i needed it.

Called best buy customer care and told them about the problem, they immediately booked me in for a tech to come out and look at the tv, he came out said the parts were next to impossible to get for westinghouse, so he ordered the only part that was available and explained to me that he knew this part would not fix my tv, but he had to show corp that he tried to repair the tv! He told me that when the part came in he would come back, swap out the part and would then call his bosses and would say the tv is a loss. Thats exactly what he done. I got the $1519 back as store credit and was told to go back to the store with the tv then pick out a new one!

I ended up walking out of the store with the 40" sammy 4066f that they had on sale for $1499, so that really worked out in my favor! I am happy apart from the the ocassional real stupid sales associates i have to continually correct, espec when it comes to hdtv and blu ray specs!

The good (and the bad) about BB is that the sales team is not on commission.

Its good because you don't have 11 different sales people vying for you to say their name when asked, "Did anyone help you?" at the register. I went into a store once and as approached 5 times. Crazy.

Anyway, its bad because they have no built-in drive to haggle or talk price.

Here's a hint though: jump right to management. When it comes down to it, they are they only ones who actually have the green light to haggle.

I bought my panny plasma at BB. I had been researching my TV for a while and knew the price I got it for was a good deal back in Jan (1200$CAN).

However, whatever you buy at Best Buy or Future Shop, you need to be careful and find out, first thing what is the actual MSRP of a product as they tend to price a product more than that THEN give you a sale on it, stating that its a great deal, while others have it year round at that price. For example my plasma was 1699$CAN MSRP at the time that I bought it. During the few months before my purchase I saw this:

1999.99$REG --- save 300$ for 1699.99$

The following week:

1699.99$REG ---- save 100$ for 1599.99$

the week after that:

1799.99REG: --- save 100$ for 1699.99$

This inconsistancy and litterally fraud to the consumer has led to a case being opened here by the Consumer Protection Agency in Canada last month.

As in any other thing though, take your time, do your research.

When I walked in BB, know that the price was 1200$ I litterally walked, grabbed a vendor and pointed at the TV and said " I want this and I want it delivered". No arguments, and I don't event think he tried to sell me extended warranty because he figured I was sure of my things.

Best Buy Canada is different then Best Buy USA, they run different prices. and Yes they can haggle the price a little bit, They would rather sell the TV than have you walk away.

I bought mine at BB cause of the 4 year service plan (and renewable after first 4 years).

It's unbeatable.

You're not being screwed, they have people who need to get paid. Leases on buildings need to be paid. Drivers need to be paid. Plus profit needs to be made after that. Retail cost more than on-line shopping because there are more costs involve.

Here is my advice. Consider the price you want to pay. If you are ok with retail, shop around. Talk to different stores and see who helps you out the most. Who gives you the best information and assistance. When you find a place that you like, buy from them and remember names. You will get a better experience by doing that.

I had a friend buy a TV at BB, 3 days later it completely stopped working on him. Best Buy refused to give him a new TV but gladly accepted his broken TV. Took him a month later and threatening to get a lawyer before they finally gave him a different TV.

I also had a bad experience there but in there car audio department.
Told them i want speakers in the front doors becuase they were blown. He did a check on my car for compatible speakers and we found a good set. They then had me come back 2 hours later and told me they wouldn't fit. I noticed they were trying to install them in the rear and not the front; i told him i said front and not rear and he told me "oh those wont fit in the front at all, we have to charge you for two speaker installations." I argued a little with him and ended up having to pay 140 dollars for their **** up. The store manager wouldn't give me any slack either after i came in later to talk to him he also refused to give me any refund.

F**K BEST BUY. Those two stories are all you need

I bought a 50 inch LG plasma for a great price. I had been watching the price for a few weeks and finally saw it advertised at a price I was willing to pay. Like others have said, Best Buy prices on TV's do jump around a lot so just watch for sales. In fact I have not seen my TV advertised again for the price I got it at. The good think about Best Buy is they offer at least a 30 day and sometimes they advertise a 90 day price guarantee so if you see the price advertised lower either at Best Buy or another store, you can take your receipt back and get a refund for the difference.

Also make sure you are part of the rewards program. For every $250 you spend, you will get $5 back in reward certificates. That's not a great deal, but when you are buying an expensive TV you at least get a little something back.

For every bad story there are plenty of good ones. I bought an open item printer there once. From being a shelf display the thing got beat up pretty badly and when I got it home it didn't read and documents I tried printing. I brought it in and they gave me the new model of my discontinued printer and charged me $0 extra. There are good BBYs and bad ones unfortunately.

That was their mess up, they should of just got you the right speakers, and just installed, and maybe take some money off since they messed up.

At least that's what my Best Buy does, I can't help what some people do at other Best Buy's but that is why they have been cleaning house on Best Buy's that haven't been selling anything, they know it is because of the employees/(managers, who hire them). I would say 85% are good ones now, with that 15% still not catching on that to sell anything, it is all about the customer.
