This being said, I don't really think of SnK as a Mecha series either. Sure you have your semi variable mechas (but they make more sense in the way of flight vs combat. They do not fully transform), and your "test machines" for the "elite pilot" (very Macross in this way), but the elements of Futuristic Military/ Horror are much more present imo. Also, you can tell that the Mechas, while looking decent, are not where the artist has put a lot of time. They look all rather generic, but also probably more realistic in this way.
You can tell the man loves his monsters (and Tsumugi is awesome  )
