I remember people asking for back cover, so...voila!

[Show spoiler]

Disc 1:

Extended Director's Cut
Excerpt from the Documentary Profile: Once Upon a Time: Sergio Leone
Theatrical Trailers

Disc 2:

Theatrical Cut
Commentary by Richard Schickel
Excerpt from the Documentary Profile: Once Upon a Time: Sergio Leone
Theatrical Trailers

The newly added 22 minutes of added scenes bring us closer to Leone's original vision of the film, but due to the limited availability of 35mm work prints, the new inserts could not be restored to the same quality as the rest of the film.

And...pre-order canceled. Not buying an intermediate 251 min cut.

From what I know, the only two cuts approved by Leone were the 229 minute version and the 269 minute version. I don't see how this release can be a "Director's Cut" if scenes from the original intended version have been excluded.

I'll just wait it out and see if there is any news regarding the remaining footage possibly being reinserted into the film. For me, the 229 minute version will suffice.

Exactly the same as the Italian disc, then, by the sound of it. I'll just hang onto that and the original release for now. Saved myself some pennies.

The 229 cut is near perfect anyway. The 251 cut a mere curiosity for the hard core. Worth a look but not definitive and definitely not a directors cut.

Don't you know if full specifications of audio and subtitles for both versions are already known (they usually are not all on the back cover – at least the previous version didn't have)? Thanks!

The back of the packaging shows that the running time of the theatrical cut in the set is 229 minutes so it is indeed the European theatrical cut and not the heavily cut American theatrical cut.

Back cover is actually contradictory so who knows if it's restored or not. I'd heard work had been done..

Back cover makes it look like a 300-page book too.

"limited availability of 35mm work prints"

Does this mean they found some legit prints of the deleted scenes? Because last I heard, the Cannes cut/Italian blu had all deleted scenes taken from dupes.

It appears that back cover raises more questions than answers.

Same here. I've got the US and the Italian extended, that'll do me fine.

Prints are "dupes". They are duplicates of the original negatives.

The 229-minute cut makes the two-disc set worth having, IMO, and I'll be interested to check out the 251-minute one.

I should have reworded it. I think I remember reading that the deleted scenes came from VHS dupes or something, so I was wondering if they got these "remastered" scenes from another (and better) source.

I'm sure it's identical to the current 229 minute Blu-Ray.

You don't think they'll bother to use the new master elements to re-cut that version? I suppose it's possible given it's Warner.

Still, I never bought the previous BD, so it's still a good deal to me.

No, especially since the main selling point of this release is the new footage, not a new transfer. The features and specs are also identical to the current disc.

So, is this the same remastered transfer as the overseas version?

Wait a second, let me see if I understand: there was a 4K restoration that debuted in 2012. I know that. It was still missing 15 minutes or so, but hey, still would be very exciting to see.

Are we saying that this release does NOT use the new 4K scan? That would just seem insane to me. WTF Warner. Please tell me this is a mistake.

Why wouldn't it just be exactly what was shown at Cannes in 2012? But prepped for blu-ray (i.e. give me the longest possible version from new 4K transfer, and the "extended" version seamlessly branched from the lower quality added in scenes). All on 2 discs of course. I guess that's too simple/obvious.

The Cannes cut was pulled very soon after the Italian blu ray was released (if I recall correctly) for "further restoration", so Warner might be using a new 4K scan.
